I live in Indaiana and Chicago is 1 hr far from my home so I buy meat once a month from Chicago.
We also buy our meat like a month's supply at a time and then just freeze it. Have never had any problem with it nor noticed any change in taste, quality etc
^ i didnt mean to offend, i find it strange bcos i would have thought that goat wouldnt b easily available in usa either, bcos the majority of ppl would go for the usual beef / lamb type animals.
I know goat is a common food animal in other countries, but didnt think so in states.

How long will meat keep in the freezer?
The halal meat place is literally right outside our complex, so we go once a week, or once every two weeks, but there's always something that's still in the freezer that I just don't feel like cooking. How long will that keep?

a lot of my inlaws family lives in canada, and they were surprised too, that i could get goat meat in the US...
there they said, since 'goat' is consumed by only pakistani muslims, and not by arab muslims (arabs prefer lamb i think), it was hard for t hem to find halal goat meat readily available in their area... they had to substitue with lamb...
and u know goray ppl, they ususally just eat chickent, beef, pork...
rarely they use lamb for dishes (lamp chops etc)... and goat almost never or very very rarely (i dont think its common for them to use it at all)
so in that sense too, its not consumed that much...

When I buy I make sure that goat weight is between 16-17lb. Big goats have very bad smell. We don't like the smell of the goat too. but make sure u get baby goat doesn't have smell at all. Red meat is not good healthwise, so I only get keema/ veel boti for kababs etc. white meat chicken/fish is good. I always tell the grocery shop owner if i get smelly goat i will return it :P so that way he give me good stuff :) last week i bought whole baby goat for $80, whole chicken is $6. qeema 2 lb cost me $10, qeema 2lb $10.

I buy the meat right before i decided to cook it. The meat shops are within five mins drive away so the idea of buying in bulk and freezing it doesn't sound so appealing and also i hate defrosting the meat.

Frozen meat should last for ages, if u have a 5* freezer. I know i have cooked meat thats been frozen for about 2 months, and my mum sometimes pulls out something from the bottom of the upright freezer thats no one knows how long its been there for, and it turns out ok!
Now here's something gross, my husband brought home some lambs brain once (YUCK!), i couldnt bring myself to look at it, let alone cook it, so it went into the bottom of the freezer, and i always ignored it after that. One day MONTHS later, husband got hold of it and cooked it. I did warn him at his peril, but he said there was nothing wrong with it.
Moral of the story - if something like brains can be cooked and eaten a LOOOONG time after freezing, im sure regular meat can be.

lol... thaw it in the frige over night. Next day if you need to thaw it more, use cold water. When thawed... smell the meat, if it doesn't smell rotten, it should be good to use. Don't leave it out longer. Also use lot of ginger/garlic.

^ Lusi - u sound like ur used to disguising suspicious smelling meat. "use lot of ginger/garlic"!
Sahar - u can also thaw it quickly by placing it in a large bowl of warm water, u'll know soon enough if its bad.
Remember, freezing is a method of preservation, it also stops bacteria from growing, so theoretically, it should still b in the same state when it thaws, as when u put it in.

Ok stupid Q but how do u guys actually buy meat? Like..i wanna buy goat but only a teeny tiny portion of it, cz im the only one who will eat it… so what do i tell the butcher, give me 1/4 of a goat? jaldi batao plz…

^^ depends... if you like having lot of meat in your meal or not and if it is boneless meat or meat with bone....

depends on your weekly menu...
we usually do lean red meat twice a month
fish twice a week
poultry once a week.
I know that fresh produce/poultry and meat tastes way better than frozen stuff but its jst time consuming. Weekly shopping and meat shopping is going to consume so much of my time on the weekends. Grrr....
I think im ranting!
noo you dont have to buy it fresh everyday..as long as its cut 'right' ...white meat and lean meat freezes well too...
the taste may depend on how you thaw it and whether or not its marinated/cooked right..
