I was born and brought up in the UK and have never seen anything like this. These guys have crossed the limits by refusing to serve somebody wearing non-american dress it is absolutely disgusting. We often feel the racist vibes or the odd dirty looks but nothing like this.
Is it really like this in America or just some parts?

However I see similar tantrums thrown at people in Pakistan Affairs and Religion forum here... so, I will say there is truth in there...
I have seen red necks in indiana being so compassionate and willing to talk to my father who has a beard, wore a jinnah cap and kurta shalwaar and was walking with me in Walmart.

I personaly did not experience anything. I have lived in many states of USA. But my brother in law who lives in San Diego , CA told me he advertised to sell his car and someone called who was interested in buying it then this guy asked my brother in law his name which happens to be Mohammed , this guy said I do not do business with Muslims and hanged up the phone.

We've not experienced any outright racism. Mirch, I'm so sorry about what happened to your BIL, thats shameful. And it shows ignorance. People are afraid, they only know what they KNOW. So if Muslims keep on keeping to themselves, they are UNknown. The BEST way to battle this affliction of ignorance is to mix in to the best of your ability and get to know each other. It CAN work, it DOES work, I've seen it myself. Muslims CAN live in a western society amonst western people AND adhere to their beleifs and customs. When this happens, people wake up and see what a REAL Muslim is.
I am in no way blaming Muslims for the ignorance of other people. I just think that the best way to handle the ignorance and the resulting racism is to educate them and show them that Muslims are good people.

twice as many actually stood up for the girl compared to the 6 ppl who sided with the clerk (an actor btw)... but more ppl combined just stood nad watched and said/did nothing.

I have had ppl stand up for me, my neigbours come to my place after 9/11 with food and stuff after hearing on the news that muslims were avoiding going out fearing attacks, some offered for us to stay at their place. an old college buddy who I had lost touch with dug my cntact info out, called me and offered to drive up and take me and hide me in his family's farm untilt hings cool down because he was not sure how ugly it will get.
sure there are ignorant racist jerks around, no doubt about it, but I still believe that the good ppl outweigh them.

I wasn't really commenting upon the ones who didn't say anything. But the way the apathetic ppl were shown in the video was kinda..strange.
In fact I was typing out some pretty mean stuff..til i saw the rest of the video. Still u can't ignore that more people actually stood up for her than the ones who didn't, so i do agree with ur last statement that the good outweigh the bad.....
Ignorants like you must be made to live in some middle eastern country so that you could appreciate for being given basic human rights and freedom to live your life the way you want to live in these western countries.

Just like Coolmunda I was born in England and have spend 3/4 of my life here. I have been racially abused during schooling and in the late 90's but nothing major like going into your local or any shop/store and being refused service. Personally I don't like to create a fuss, If someone refused to serve me I would just go to another shop, no big deal.

I was as passionate as you sound re this issue when I was younger but now I just earn my bread and come home. Arguing with people in our area means 2 things: you either end up in hospital or at a Police station. I don't want to pay either a visit any time soon.
