How much "Puri" does an average man eat?

This Saturday I am hosting a brunch at my house. The menu is halwa, chanay, allo and puri.

I need an “undaza” of how much puri I need to make.

2 for women and 3 for guys?

How much puris can you eat? Size of pori is 6 to 7 inches in diameter.

Tabu - stop your winking and answer the question!!! :smack:

Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?

It depends on the size of your puris. I make about 7-8 inch puris and the women eat between 2-3 and the men eat around 4-5. My 3 year old easily eats 2 puris so dont forget to include children (though most might not eat more than one).

I would suggest you make 3 per women and 5 for each man and 2 per child. I tend to roll them, put them on wax paper and leave them in a stack in the fridge. Once I need to start frying, I make on demand and keep them coming until some one says stop.

^How long can you keep them in the fridge for? Can you make them the night before and freeze them?

Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?

In Lahore and Pindi, where the Puris are unmatched, I used to make it a point to goto halwa poori shops at 5-6am during my winter/spring break trips to Pakistan... I observed that the puris were huge, and the regulars still ate 4-5 on average with halwa, channey, achaar. I mean I dont blame them, these puris were amazing and all, but thats over 3000 calories right there just during breakfast! But then again, alot of them worked hard during the day and worked and sweat their brows.

As long as you use wax paper, you can keep them overnight. Howeve, I tend to make my dough the night before and then wake up really early in the morning and start the factory production. I usually keep mine for two or three hours.

I havent ever frozen mine but you can try. Just remember to put oil on the wax paper and make sure that the wax paper completely covers the puri and then put them in a freezer bag to prevent freezer burn on the edges.

^ spockie, there's nothing like lahori puri's dripping with oil and wrapped up in yesterday's newspaper :D they're so yummy and you could eat like 6 or 'em without even realizing it :p

njgal - for five people, i think they're should be around 15 - 20 puris in total. maybe a little bit more, depending on how much the guys will eat :p will you have other choices as well (i.e. - naan, bread, etc.?)

Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?

yeah i agree, i would go with about 4-5 puri per man, and and 3 puri per woman. Better to have extras. Maybe have fresh naan on the side as well.

Wow your puri, hala channa sounds delicious....so tempted to go to shalimar breakfast this weekend...yummmm their achar is awesome

If i were to make for my family, i would say 5-6 for men and 2-3 for ladies...can you send some over too pls lol

Average man/woman....5-7 I would say :)

Urghh, the thought of all that oil's making me feel sick.

My mum bought a tortilla maker. All she does is knead the dough as per puri dough recipe and make "peras" which she places on the tortilla maker to "sake" or toast the puris.

The sikah hua or toasted puris are good to keep for a day or so and she can fry them the next day. Since my mum's a big dinner-party/lunch-party person and has had up to 60 people invited - this seriously reduces the amount of work she needs to do on the day of the party yet still allows her to serve garam, taaza puris.

BTW - for numbers - at least 3 each for women and 4-5 for the men.

Do you have a non-puri option for those who may not want to eat fried foods? Like naan or something else?

Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?

i think you should make 5+ for the men, and stick to 3 for women, as some diet conscious women will eat no more than 1...so you will have some left over,

Can i come?? i love halwa puri.....yum yum

Noooo! That's the best part! You can't have puri's without all that oil :p

Granted through, that those puri's can only be eaten like that it Lahore. If I were to make 'em at home, i'd feel pretty sick too :D

That’s what I plan to do - make the food before and the garam garam puri as they are eating the brunch.

I want to estimate how “peeray” to make and roll out.

I am feeding the kids PIZZA.

It’s a brunch so won’t have time in the morning.

:bummer: I think I should have some deep naan in fridge just in case.

I wish I had 5 ppl coming. I have about 15-18. That's a lot of puri. Meray becharay haath :(

Afro - I should just take them to shalimaar - save the hassle. Indeed their stuff is so yummy. (love their mango lassi)

paeeto :)

i thought you said you had 2 women and 3 guys. i think that's five people all together, no?

unless i suck at adding. which i probably do :p
