Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
I love puri...if ONLY it wasnt so damn OILY!!! Anyway, in my family...women usually down 2 puris - same for children - and men about 5 or 6.
It seems as if you should estimate 4 for each man (they might not eat so much if they are guests) and 2 per woman.
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
im a girl and can eat 3/4 of it. but i think women usually eat around 1.5-2 and men around 4.
oh just read waht PSQ said and agree with her.
she meant 2 puris for each woman and 3 puris for each man
told ya i can't count :D
but then again, she says that she wishes she had 5 people coming. and not 15 - 18. but whatever. we should go over and help the poor girl out :p
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
3 for woman and 6 for men
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
^ Greedy!
dafa ho!
smilestar you are so sweet. You are the only one willing to help and not eat
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
^ aww, i'd really come and help you out if you lived closed :D
just get one of your friends that you've invited to help you out. while you roll the puri out, they can help with the frying and flipping of the puri. and they don't take very long to cook either.
you'll do fine..and everyone will love 'em =)
LOL - that’s why I mentioned the tortilla maker tarkeeb. It saves most of the labor. The rolling out (puri ko bailna) is done by the tortilla maker.
Here is a link to show you a tortilla maker.

The key is to just lightly toast so you don’t have the dark spots on it like you get on chapatti. You can do this the night before and the next day just fry.
I thought you need to “bael” it for it to have “lachak” ???

I'm not entirely certain what you mean by "lachak" - but the way I was describing, you toast/sake the puri in the tortilla maker very lightly - more like "bhaap lagna" or lightly steaming it and you take it out while it's a little undercooked (you don't want to toast it all the way through or it will become a flour tortilla).
This way, when you fry the steamed puri roti, it cooks the rest of the way through.
In my estimation, good puris are a little crispy, but soft inside and "bubbly" for lack of a better word on the outside and that's how my mum's puris come out even with the help of the tortilla maker.
An idea - look for a tortilla maker at one of your local department stores. Try it out - if it works great, if not you can always return it.
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
"lachak" - it has a little pull to it - someone help me out here!
Re: How much "Puri" does an average man eat?
^ i know what you mean. almost like 'elasticity' type thing.
like with a roti, you rip it, and it rips. whereas with a puri it stretches outtttt before it breaks.
is that what you're trying to say?
"lachak" - it has a little pull to it - someone help me out here!
Oh okay, gotcha. And yes, despite making the puris on the tortilla maker, they still have that lachak. Maybe a way to describe it is - because the puri dough is kneaded with a fair amount of oil in it, when you toast/sake it lightly its remains soft and has that elasticity. By frying it, you're really just crisping the outside.
My mum is a fabulous cook - she would never serve sub-par food when she has a dinner party and like I said, she made enough puris for 60 people. The party was an open house concept - people came in batches, ate, mixed, mingled, chatted and left. And between me and my sis, we kept the garam puris coming since they were half done.

1-2.
