when you go out to dinner or anywhere that a gratuity is expected?

i usually give 20% even if mine is an entry level job…

Minimum 15%, but if my bill is lower, my tip could be higher than that.

in my mind giving 20% kind of makes up for the reputation of indians of being…well…you know :smiley: even russell peters made fun of it :bummer: but i always explain to the iranian dude that has a couple indian customers that the indians that just came from india tend to save more since they are first generation ones just coming into the US

growing up in the united states my dad always gave 15% or more so it kind of rubbed off on me.

usually at bars it run higher, if the bartender is hot.

I don't understand why some people try to save on the tips. If one can afford to eat out, they can certainly afford to add a few more dollars towards the tip.

Atleast 15% - again like Nisha said even though I work a minimum pay job. I could never walk out of a restaurant without giving tip.

Apparently 20% is the new 15%. I give at least 15%, more if the service is better.

And this is the first thing I thought of when I read the title…And I don’t mean to offend anyone, I think this applies to all desis

15% is the standard tipping amount in North America. That being said, I refuse to accept 20% as the new 15% - that's too much as a base tip. 20% or more if the service merits it, but I refuse to give more than 15% for just okay service.

I approximate (eg if bill is $20 give $25) or use my cell phone.
