how many of you skipped madrasa schools to attend english medium
job oreinted schools and let the poor one attent madrasas?
is it fair while middle class attends normal schools while letting poor children attend madrasas? is it a way of pacifying poor people
by divetring their attention to religen and render them unskilled
in real job market?
I have one cousin who attended a madrassa before starting on his elementary education and then continued to attend madrassa on weekends. He is a hafiz of the Quran and a universitystudent in computer sciences.
Other people I know have not gone to madrassa but had the same teachers come to their home and teach them due to time clashes with school. There are many other kids who attend madrassa after school because their parents want them to gain a better religious education alongwith math and science and history etc.
As I have noted numerous times before. Madrassas serve a purpose and painting them all due to the actions or apprtoaches of a few is of great disservice to those which are providing a good service.
rvikz, which school did the Muslim burning Hindus of India attend?
<
I think the converse is more apt.
Well my cousin in Pakistan attends maddressa and Mashallah he's
a hafiz-e-Quran right now. He also attends regular school.
As for me and my siblings we used to go to Mosque, after
school to learn Quran. From Yasil Quran to the 1st Para and all the way to the 30th.
But I think being a Hafiz-e-Quran requires lots of time and involvement.
It's a hard task but well worth it and madressa is the best place
for it. Don't get me wrong, but most Molvis in Masjids are more into, punish and beat the students if they don't memorize the sabaq (lesson)
Our whole family is proud of Saqib, my counsin in Lahore, because he's the first Hafiz in our family ( I believe).

Well, Ravi I used to be a student at Sindh Madarssal-Islam. I left Madarsaas at the age of 8.

It used to be. Not any more. I hope new education system in Madarassa of Science & Technology would help the students of Pakistan. Let's hope for the best.

What service do they provide? Whipping?
90% of madrassahs target orphans and underprivileged children with very impressionable minds. These kids are taught the Qur'an by rote. They have limited understanding of the meaning, the primary emphasis is on memorization of the entire Qur'an, a process which is hammered into them for hours every day. They are cut off from their families most of the time, as well as from any other healthy form of social contact.
They are not allowed to develop their play skills, they do not have access to other subjects, the sciences, math, languages are all neglected. Their mind is confined, ultimately stagnates and the end result is by the time they leave the Madrassah they are so heavily brainwashed and so narrowly focused in life, that neither can they fully integrate into a normal diverse society nor detach themselves from the suffocating cloud of often-regressive dogmas that have been drummed into them.
Home-schooling for a few hours a day/week cannot be compared with intensive Masrassah "education".

you are incorrect
You want to know what they provide, they provide needy families and needy children with a chance to get some sort of education, the kids and the people that their country forgot, that their people did nto bother about..why can public schools not furnish this sevice to underpriviliged kids. We can sit on our high horses and look down at madrassas and people who attend those except we forget that as a nation we have decided to leave the underpreviliged on their own. If people have issues, why dont they bring about an alternative..its easy to simply blame government..ohh the govt dies not provide this and the govt does not provide that..Pakistani ppl in the past have shown that they have the capability to fill a gap in services due to individual initiative.
Again not all madrassahs are only offering quran lessons, not all madrassahs keep kids away from their families.
I mean its really rich that we can start saying that madrassahs dont allow play skills and access to other subjects...has anyone seen a one room village school and what facilities and cutting edge curriculum they provide?
You know what..we will not need madrassahs to fill a gap if there was no gap...and if the govt cant fill the gap. The people can...
Its erroneous to think that all madrassas in Pakistan are the type that Ana has described, although I am positive than many exist, and those type should not.
Madrassa is not a place for "religious eduction" in the definition of "memorizing the Quran". Its been made into such a place by some Muslims.
Rewind back into Islamic history and you will find that Madrassas were institutions of eduction...exactly like universities, and the education was of various types...sociology, mathematics, science, medicine, etc.
The approach, I suppose was a bit more holisitic. It incorporated all subjects and gave each individual a "well-rounded" education. Some madrassas today in Pakistan, still provide that, and that too - at no cost.
In the end, everything is about money. No one invests in these madrassas, and the fees is almost nothing. If no one is pumping money into these systems, how do you suppose they can afford to teach kids more than one subject??
The only solution to the brain-washing type of madrassas, is that the government regulates those in exitence and provides free or discounted education to lower classes! Both approaches are being used currently by The Mush.
Fraudz said : some sort of education
Exactly. Some sort. Not always the good sort.
However, agree with u that the people can do something and not just leave it up to the govt. Any ideas on where to start?
Anyhow, the question should be ..."what are all the Pakistanis living Abroad DOING to provide education to the needy and thus prevent the current jihaadi-oriented ideology from spreading?"
Are we providing money to educational institutes back home?
Are we donating books and pencils and paper?
Are we helping back home to build schools in villages?
Are we providing scholarships to the underprivileged for higher studies?
Are we even raising our voice to complain as the "rich" private school-running "aunties" jack up tuition prices so that only rich kids can attend their schools, thereby increasing their social popularity at some private club?
Comon now.
do the miltiary leaders or politicians sons and daughters go these
schools or they end up in the west while leaving poor alumini of madarasas crossing the loc to fight for kashmir? how many politicians
sons crossed loc to face indians? may they are going to colleges
in the west sitting next to indians?
Why is this question rvikz?
rvikz, I believe the Indian elite has the same privelege.
Heck, in every country, the elite have the privelege for higher studies at top universities and withdrawing from participation in war. Where HAVE you been, dear?
