Nope, thats not the case. My mami is doing PHD in chemistry these days in Germany. Its a 3 year thingy. A mentor of mine, is doing on-line phd in Comp. Science. through some US programme. Its 2,5 years I think.... depending on credits...
I recall there are a few uni in US, that does not require a MA to do phd. My far off relative moved away from parents to persue it.
The longest phd-period was an Indian lady I helped to open a ethnic-team of Psychologists.....she did phd in ten years. But I guess, there was language barrier and other stuff too. She teaches Psychology at uni now.
Inshallah rehman, my own aim is to do PHD as well. And Im in Europe ;-)
