OH MY GOD!!! severe signs of Qayamat… WHY THE HELL DO YU WANT TO DATE SOMEONE FOR THAT LONG… ACTUALLY WHY DO YOU WANT TO DATE FUL STOP… Im presuming you are muslim…ask your parents how long you should date, im sure they will have alot to say… Ive been born and bred in the UK… thats so common and fustrating here.. you expect this behaviour from the goras… not from our muslims or pakistanis… Islam doesnt give you the option to date… meet with soemone else present to reduce temptation.. talk about religion and other things to find out what the person is like… your first and utmost should be that your prospective partner is religious… but form how you are talking you dont seem religious enough to understand the criteria for looking for a life partner… VERY VERY SAD

If I am right in assuming that this forum is mainly used by those who come from muslim asian backgrounds and most of them do have some morals, then you have definitely ended up on a wrong forum. I am sure there will be other places you will find like minded people who can help you.

True. Even conservatives in Christianity and Judaism prohibit dating. And marriage is encouraged. But i am not a perfect Christian so as some Muslims.

Just my 2 cents.... if "dating" was such a good preventive measure then why there are so many divorces in west??

Because in the west women aren't as economically dependent on men and its just as easy for them to divorce men as it is for men to divorce women. In Pakistani society however, most women are socially and economically dependent on men and are brainwashed into sacrificing themselves for their kids. Also, while men can give instant talaq for whatever reason they wish, the process of khula takes ages, disapproval of society, and a lot of court hassle which translates into over half the population being pressurized into not using that option.

So yeah, divorce rates may be higher in the west but that doesn't mean the east has more successful marriages. I assure you, we have countless couples trapped into marriage and while the men release their frustration by besharamly committing adultery or marrying multiple wives, women sit at home raising kids, trying to look beautiful but feeling insecure as hell and really just trying to make it through life.

I would like to ask for some advice here...I'm confused on an issue... Ideally I would want to date a guy for about 2 to 4 years before getting engaged or married (this is assuming I like the guy and everything progresses accordingly). This is because I know it takes time to see what a guy is actually like in different situations and get to know him on a deep level and also because it takes time for feelings to develop. But I'm wondering if long term relationships will give too many opportunities for temptation, especially as the feelings start to grow? What is a good amount of time to date someone that will allow me to get to know him and develop feelings (if they are going to happen) without being so long that I have a hard time resisting temptation? After months of dating I'm sure it will start to feel like a marriage and then sex would feel like the natural thing to do and especially as feelings develop i will want it even more than initially. It would also feel weird in some ways to date someone for years and not progress to getting intimate. That's what I do with friends!

If you read carefully I mentioned ‘morals’. Ever came across that word? .

…however, I agree that the idea of morality may vary from society to society.
