How long after stopping Birth Control did you conceive?

I just stopped taking my birth control at the end of last month. I havent had my “regular” period yet, but was just wondering how long it took other ladies to get pregnant after stopping their birth control? My husband and I are not actively trying yet, but if it were to happen, we would be VERY happy! We are finally at a stage where we feel we are settled enough to start having kids, so we just want to start planning.

Its been more than an year and we are still trying. But then i have PCOS so thats the reason behind the delay. If you are well then inshAllah it can happen anytime once your system gets back to normal! :)

I had a full check up about 1.5 years ago, because 2 of my cousins have been diagnosed with PCOS, and I had some symptoms. The doctor could not give me a definite answer, even after blood work and ultrasounds. She said the ultra sounds showed some follicles on my ovaries, but because it was early in my cycle, those could just be the eggs developing. Also from my blood work, I dont have high levels of testosterone (it was not over the normal level), but it was in the high range of the normal level. I had more blood work done about 5 months ago, and I had the same results. I dont have insulin resistence.

The symptoms that I do have that made me think that I may have PCOS are:

irregular periods (when I wasnt on birth control, I would get my period anywhere from 32-40 days - no set time each month)
facial/body hair
carrying excess weight in my stomach

So based on these symptoms, I thought I may have it. My husband is a doctor and always tells me I dont have it, and its all in my head. I have started moderate exercise now, because he says that is the only "cure" for PCOS, so hopefully that will help IF I do have it.

InshAllah your patience will be rewarded with a baby soon. Allah always answers our duas, sometimes it just takes longer because Allah knows best when the right time for us is. I will keep you in my prayers, and please pray for me as well.

^ There are two different versions of PCOS, and IF you have it, yours sounds similar to mine. I'm not insulin resistant, I was thin, etc. My doctors have been inconsistent with the diagnosis too. But I was VERY irregular (like 2-4 periods a year).

I think docs say it takes up to 6 months to get your cycles back to normal after taking the pill. One of my friends conceived the very first month! You never know!

If you dont mind me asking, how long did it take you to get pregnant? and did you have to use metformin or clomid?

my cycles went crazy after stopping the pill. they were very long and unpredictable. it took me 5 months to concieve but i wasnt able to start trying until 13 months after i stopped because my cycles were so off.

8 months but it felt forever..my cycle was always very regular..28-30days on the dot and my cycle was back to normal the month I stopped bcps so i thought things would happen right away but nopse it took 8months to get there. So even if you don't have any issues, your body will take some time.

I got pregnant a month after stopping my pills..it was much quicker then I expected.

Took me 3 months. I saw the stats on babycenter.com where it said 58% of couples get pregnant within 3 months and 75-80% get pregnant within 6 months of trying, provided they don't have any issues.

I think the most important thing you can do right now is to make sure your cycles are regular. Regular cycles are the best indicator of ovulation.

2 months after I stopped using birth control..happened all 3 times.

thanks everyone! Its good to know that it can happen within a few months. And even if it doesnt happen within a few months, there is always help out there, if there is some sort of issue.

Please keep me in your prayers, and I will pray for everyone trying as well. Allah has His own plans for everyone, so I cant be impatient, but I really do want to get pregnant in the early parts of the new year!

yes ur husband is so right 2 best ways t fight pcos is loosing weight and keeping ur mind relaxed

I don't mean to be rude but I have PCOS and I could be an relaxed as the dali lama and I still wouldn't be able to have a baby without the help of medical intervention. Being relaxed isn't going to get my body to release and egg. Also Im not over wieght, losing weight wasn't going to help me either. I know for some women losing weight helps.

I did have an baby with the help of a few fertility drugs

There is not "cure" for PCOS...its a syndrome with means that it can be controlled but if you have it, you have it.

Technically its safe but once you become pregnant you'll have to stop breastfeeding no ? So why not just wean your baby before trying for a second. Also who know breastfeeding might be the reason you're not getting pregnant.

Yes, I know there is no actual cure, that's why it was in quotations, but he meant that exercising will help, as that is recommended by most doctors. But being a healthy weight is good for any pregnancy, whether pcos or not.

I got my first period yesterday after stopping birth control about 37 days ago. Does that mean that I ovulated this month? Or do you think this is hormonal bleeding (from stopping the birth control, or the fluctuations of hormones in my body)?

I have a question for all of you: Like all of you've discussed about starting your regular period/becoming pregnant after such and such long, I was wondering if this "regular periods" and "becoming pregnant" is also related to how long you took the bcp in the first place?! I'm asking bcoz I was diagnosed with pcos in October and started the bcp at that time, but I'm planning on trying for a baby in march (havent tried before) so do you think it's enough time (5 months) for your system to get in order? :(

Everyone's body is different. For some people, their cycles returned to normal the next month, and for some people it takes longer. Are you still on bcp? When do you plan on stopping? After you stop, you should start tracking your ovulation with taking your temperature, and also using an Ovulation Predictor Kit to know when you are ovulating.
