Re: How long after stopping Birth Control did you conceive?
I don't mean to be rude but I have PCOS and I could be an relaxed as the dali lama and I still wouldn't be able to have a baby without the help of medical intervention. Being relaxed isn't going to get my body to release and egg. Also Im not over wieght, losing weight wasn't going to help me either. I know for some women losing weight helps.
I did have an baby with the help of a few fertility drugs
There is not "cure" for PCOS...its a syndrome with means that it can be controlled but if you have it, you have it.
^^^thank you for saying this!!! i also suffered from PCOS (along with severe endometriosis) 2 rounds of IVF and kids later, it's now been 4 years since I've had a full hysterectomy (ovaries, tubes & uterus), and I STILL suffer from PCOS...I'm still on Metformin....like you said..once you have it, you have it...it's not just about the ovaries or exercising or being a little overweight...it's about how your body is programmed to metabolize (in my case, insulin resistance)
Re: How long after stopping Birth Control did you conceive?
^Khattichic was your hysterectomy due to PCOS? and what about your weight issues and facial hair (if you had any, did they get better after having kids)
Saima: yes, I'm still on birth control but I was wondering if 5 months will be enough time to have regular cycles or conceive? As far as I understood, people usually take bcp for longer than 6 months atleast...no? I will stop bcp in march, which is when I will be done with only 5 months of bcp...... and i plan on trying to conceive right when I stop it insha'Allah. Thanks for the temperature tip, I'll keep that in mind insha'Allah :)
Re: How long after stopping Birth Control did you conceive?
^ if the bcp is for such a term term contraception, why not look into something non-hormonal? But then I eon know, you might be taking it for other reasons!
It takes about 6-8 months for a normal couple to conceive and docs don't intervene unless you have been trying for a year granted there are no other known issues!
Re the pill..it's out of your system pretty quickly so if you are ovulating regularly before starting bcp, you can ge pregnant the day after you stop pill or within 2-3 months while your body adjusts to functioning without the pill.

My hysterectomy was due to many factors, mainly the endometriosis...the scar tissue was so severe my left Fallopian tube was knotted and I had never even ovulated from my left ovary, when diagnosed after a laparoscopy, my doc found that had 18 or so cysts all over it....I also had uncontrolable bleeding and severely painful periods that would sometimes last 40-45 days! Throw in a predisposition to cancer, which unfortunately runs in my family...
My weight issues did improve for a while after the kids, it was more because of stress though! Having 3 kids in less than 2 years (my second delivery was the twins!) will do wonders for weight loss! However, once life settled down, the weight came back, and no matter how hard I worked out or dieted, I just couldn't lose the weight. So now I'm on metformin for the insulin resistance, 2mg pill of estradiol (estrogen) and I take flutamide to combat the testosterone issues to cure the facial hair problems. Flutamide is traditionally a med used in males for prostate problems, but in conjuction with metformin, it works wonders for women suffering from PCOS!
Re: How long after stopping Birth Control did you conceive?
it is true once you have it, you have it...but you may not need treatment each time to get pregnant. I was diagnosed pcos 2 yrs ago, had my first baby with the use of clomid after trying naturally for 2yrs...and now without trying we've just found out that we are expecting again, surprise pregnancy because we didn't expect to concieve without fertility meds. my dr said that even with pcos you can sometimes naturally release an egg even if it is not each cycle.
Gemini: thanks for the reply. Yeah, I was on non-hormonal bc for the past two years but since my dr. found out about my PCOS (October) she put me on bc, saying that it helps in TTC when you're ready.
Anyways, another question I have for you all is that I never checked if I'm ovulating "fine" before bcoz I wasn't TTC but now, when I TTC in march, do you think that those ovulation tests will be a good way to know if I can get pregnant? I mean, I don't know if there's such a thing that PCOS-ers can't get pregnant even if the test shows they're ovulating? Idk if I'm making sense, sorry.
