Would you judge people with the brand and tags they have around in their lives…where they live, what do they wear, where do they shop?
In a hypothetical situation:
Are you someone who would be too embarrassed being caught at Primark or some pound store (in the UK) or the Icchra bazaar or zainab market in Pakistan?
its less of a brand focus but if someone is wearing ill-fitting, gaudy, battered clothing then regardless of the brand, the impression is impacted. on the other hand people who just seem like walking billboards for certain brands..(joke to follow) that is very off-putting as well...even more so if the stuff is counterfeit.
now the joke....look around we all have one of these in our community...
so this is what is said about a certain family..
"you know armani, ralph lauren, etc make many products, those you see no logos on e.g. suits, or where the logos are not very visible...but they make a few tshirts and polo shirts with foot high armani jeans logo plastered on them or that big pony...thats what these guys will get"
Whats important is if its looking good. Does not matter if its branded or non-branded.
There are few things that I like of certain brand because of fitting etc so I dont mind buying those things and then there are few unbranded items those fit will, so I dont mind buying those "un branded" items.
One of family friend is one of those brand-mad people. She is like
"YEEE tu bus Polo k ilawah koi shirt pehentey hee nahi. Saal main eik dafa leen gaay liken RL ki hee leen gaai"
and sure enough that couple has made their 6 and 8 years old brand crazy too
Hmmm I think some people are just brand obssessed and some people don't care - thank goodness most of the people I know don't care. You do get the odd few who will ONLY wear designer or only shop at certain places and like to flaunt it - but it just kinda shows their own insecurity I spose.
I guess I can't talk cos I'd love to wear a 'Ubunto Kasim' (as dubbed by Queer) or HSY outfit, but would just never allow myself to spend so much on something I can get cheaper.
I'm more of a person who will look for quality in my clothes rather than the name of the brand - and I really don't mind if it's a cheapie brand sometimes!
I was so against brands a few years back but I think sometimes it's okay to spend a fortune on an item just to reward yourself. But I would never judge anyone shopping in Primark etc....I shop everywhere and look for bargains.
I judge the other way around - when people are caught up in designer brands. I especially judge when people are wearing something hideous but think it's great because it has a designer tag or have ill performing electronic equipment but they bought it for the look and brand.
Some people are obsessed with Primark though and sometimes it's like... just stop and buy 1 good quality piece rather than 5 low quality pieces.
I don't buy branded for the sake of saying this is a branded item, to me if something is of good quality, non-branded works just as fine. I'll might buy the one-odd item that is branded but only when I think that the quality, cut and longevity of it justifies the price. And I hate the five inch high ponies on the shirts - that looks tacky :)
omg....that reminded me of this guy that would wear nothing but RL......complete with the stupid pony riding idiot......
the man couldn't afford his freakin' phone bill but he had to have his damn RL shirts.
I'm quite opposite, I find items with blatant designer logo so very tacky, I always cringe whenever I see a LV initial monogram bag. God, I seriously don't understand the appeal behind the LV bags...
Trust me, when you're wearing quality stuff, people can tell. You don't need the designer tag to prove its worth...
I am beginning to seriously despise people who need to fluant their designer labels. Ok fine, you spent a fortune to buy some gay prada shoes, no need to constantly bring them up in conversation. And dude, if no one noticed them on their own, either you need to change the crowd or realize they aren't that outstanding other than their label.
Now dont get me wrong, I love looking at the designer stuff, but I can't justify paying the price.
Okay, I’m not going to lie I kind of am brand name crazy. And that is only because of quality.
It’s kind of a given, that spending $50 here and $100 there and $30 there on couple of purses, will not be the same as just saving your money for a big purchase like $300 for a purse which will last you a life time. I just don’t believe in buying cheap stuff, because it’s a complete waste of money. When I buy something I want it to stick with me for atleast 10 years, if not more.
But than I hide my designer labels/tags too . I just hate labels showing, because of the way others judge. Plus I only buy for quality and not some name tag.
My mom loves to go into super cheap stores and she thinks shes saving a ton. I’m not embarrassed to go in with her, but I think it’s a waste of money in the long-run.
God, I seriously don't understand the appeal behind the LV bags...
Me too, and every other girl here is sporting it and thinks she is some hot shizz....even filipino grannies are carrying them....whether fake or not, I have no clue.
thats sad, Eni, when someone has to prove by showing the tags that they are wearing a brand. Che che.
Doesnt it tell how superficial and hallow we people are becoming? (those of us who cant help mentioning the brand and faking if they couldnt buy one) So kills the genuineness of a person. :hinna:
There’s no denying that branded merchandise is sometimes better (though not always), and if your motivation is to get better quality stuff - I think it’s great if you can afford it. Mama always says: Mehenga royay aik baar, sasta royay baar baar. Save and buy once rather than having to replace something again and again.
But it’s like the example Eni gave - someone who buys branded just to say it’s branded and goes so far as to show the tag in the back of a dress to prove it’s branded - that’s tacky
I don't think anything lasts that long, if you are using it routinely and you don't always have to spend a lot to get endurance.
I'm all about functionality. I can't keep swapping bags everyday because I need compartments and space. I bought my current everyday bag 3 years ago (I do use it almost everyday) and it's only now starting to show its wear. The only reason I haven't bought a new one is because I cannot find something that ticks all the boxes. But it's held up so well because it's leather and it was well made and it I didn't pay a lot for it because it's not a well known brand.
Quality materials and construction don't always have to carry a label and nothing is going to last 10 years with regular use; it will look worn after a while. Even a cheap bag can last that long if you only get it out a few times a year.
