Dark skinned Pakistanis or desis often get told their skin colour is undesirable. I know girls get told this often but how often do girls rule out dark skinned guys? Is it a rishta deal breaker?
The question is directed to girls but guys feel free to answer what your response would be in a similar situation.
when I say dark skinned I mean a few shades darker than typical desi tanned colour.
Also if you had to choose between 2 people one fair other darker skinned with exact same qualities and importantly same religious compatibility who would you choose? Say they both look good for their skin colour.

Not intending to generalize about how Pakistani girls/guys would react. I wonder if we've gone past such superficialities in choosing someone. What about things like height or job income? Does the guy have to be taller and have a good job to be seen as worthwhile rishta?

Well! I love actor R. Madhavan color. I have seen him live. He is for sure pretty dark, Darker then this guy. I am not talking about Sanwala color.
Really? Is he darker. I googled him and it seems so. My parents keep saying no Pakistani girl will marry you because you'll have dark kids and they want me to marry a fairer girl. I don't agree with this. I should marry someone who likes me. Why is colour important? I am same colour as r madhavan and all my family is fairer :( my cousins tease me all the time. But then they like dark skinned singers in west. This is crazy but I used to use my sisters'sfriend's fair and lovely hoping it would work. I'd even scrub myself till I would nearly bleed. Now I am happy with my skin colour and so far I've not seen any girl discriminate on colour. But I don't know many Pakistan girls. Only know 1 girl who rejected rishta for other reasons. How about other girls you know? Are they as open minded?

I had the biggest crush on Naveen Andrews (sayed from Lost) for the longest time because of his dark skin and well, intelligence. My husband is quite dark too but it didn't bother me much. All his other amazing qualities just overshadowed something so superficial. Plus, I think if the guy knows how to maintain/ clean himself and carry himself well, the skin color doesn't really matter.

Good to know. :) that's the colour I'm talking about and old to hear you didn't let anything overshadow his good qualities. When my parents remind me of my dark skin and say I should marry fair girl or my kids will be dark I'm lost for words. I think it's all about confidence and how they perceive the colour. If they take it in their stride it can be positive if it's seen as a complex it can be negative

Well frankly I have hardly seen girls rejecting good proposal having all the desirable qualities due to his dark skin. I have seen countless couples where husband has very dark color and wife is very white. Husband’s Dark color is not at all a let down in Pakistani families at least.
But you rarely see very Dark Pakistani wife with very white husband. It’s the male gender who need to change their thinking.

I agree completely guys are much worse in this and they do more discriminating. It is usually the white guys who appreciate the desi girls beautiful brown colour more than us unfortunately. I know a few desi white couples. Personally I'd love to find a dark skinned Pakistani girl.
Somewhere I read it's because fair skin shows innocence and purity so people prefer it on girls but dark skin is more mysterious and appeals to darker side so it's ok on guys but who knows real reason.
Bataye to who is most attractive out of those 3 I mentioned.

My mom is very fair and dad is dark. Their children are somewhere in between with some resembling mom more and others more like dad. I am medium-fair. Funny thing is, my mom loves my dad to bits...has never been bothered by his colour. But she always tells me to use a foundation that is two shades lighter than my skin tone because I'm a girl and it'll be hard to find a good rishta if they think I'm dark by their standards.
At the end of the day, there are all kinds of people out there. Educated and broad minded and the parhay likhay jaahil. If someone rejects me on the basis of my skin colour, then Alhamdulillah because I wouldn't want to be a part of their family anyway.

I think it's mostly the parents who have problems with the appearance of the girl rather than the guys themselves. This is what I've always seen. My friend's been looking for rishtas for quite a while now and there was this guy we knew who wanted someone like her to get married to (education, ghar ka mahaul etc.) but he's really fair, like Syrians/Lebanese and so is his family, and my friend is not dark but not really fair, like Wheatish. Anyway I knew that if the guy came along to see the girl he wouldv said yes, but his mom didn't bring him. She went to see the girl, although she'd already seen her pic and expressed her concerns about color. Basically she said no... I don't know why she went in the first place. I'd shown her the pic without telling my friend so if she'd just been upfront and said no to us then my friend would have no way o finding out. But no she had to go and see chai parade and then said no the girls too dark.

It is hard to say like that. Complexion, features, etc do matter but more important is how one carries their self. Personally speaking i'd prefer a medium complexioned guy over say someone as porcelain as neil mukesh, lol. However the above sceneior as presented by the topic starter, in such a case if everything is equal i had most probably go for the lighter skin guy cuz i guess he'll look better with me...(as weird as it may sound).

What is that cliche standard of male attractiveness...."tall, dark, and handsome." There tends to be more flexibility for guys than women as even Uzair had mentioned in another thread. Things like the composition of your features and weight are important, but I have found...especially amongst my relatives in pak...that a girl will be deemed pretty solely on the basis of fair skin and other things like weight for instance is not factored in. I don't know if anybody else has experienced this..but I've encountered it several times from both the older and younger generation.

^ not really........ gori who is a moti, chhoti, pakoray naak wali, too sukki........ all get dumped too...... although your point holds for an average person..... an average gori would be picked over an average kaali every time..
when it comes to dark skin I think we think normal tan desi skin is dark but what if skin colour is darker like this colour would your views change?
