My brother got married, my parents insisted on nothing from my SIL family, when we sisters got married again my parents (apart from jewellery and clothes) gave us no furniture etc, and none of our in laws ever demanded either.
My heart goes out to those of you who are in the constant glare of this backward tradition that has been abused over the years.

^ We don't follow that jahez stuff either. My brother's getting married soon to a girl from a far more traditional family and tbh even the constant small gift-giving they do and expect is getting a little irritating..
