Someone told me they would slap me if I did, so never thought about it again. I was kidding about the tattoo thing btw lol! My mum would kill me if she finds out.

I don’t like the concept of tattooing someone’s name on to your body. For me that symbolises that person’s control and ownership over you, it’s like you are bng yourself, like herd owners used to do to their cattle back in the days. Even if I am with someone, I am still my own individual and not someone’s slave. I don’t see anything romantic in b**ng yourself. **

Oh and for reasons other than religion, I think these days especially, you are never sure if you are going to be with that person all those years later. Divorces are on a long time high. What if you get divorced? Your husband or wife dies? You get married again? I am not sure it would be a great thing for the new partner/husband wife to see on your body, the name of your ex/deceased husband or wife.

Tattoo removal is very costly as well. Cheryl Cole had branded herself as Mrs. Cole and look what happened. She got divorced and went through an expensive and long (1 year) tattoo laser removal procedure. It’s just better to not do it. Why subject your skin to such torture and let us not forget the risks of skin cancer.

The nose rings that desi brides wear on their wedding day could equally signify ‘ownership’ and be likened to b*****ng a piece of cattle but most of us don’t have a problem with that as we think of it as ‘culture.’ That’s the problem imo.. One difference with tattoos is that at least girls or guys can get them done if/when they feel they want to, it’s not (usually) some sort of cultural or family obligation like wearing a huge hoop on ur wedding day is for some girls..

Having had a tattoo I can say honestly it’s less painful than getting ur legs waxed or ur ears or nose pierced where obviously a needle is penetrating a lot more deeply (but of course everyone’s level of tolerance is different).. If a girl has it done whilst she’s on her period obviously then it’s going to hurt a lot more, or on a more sensitive part of her body. I think most of the horror stories about the pain have come about cos people haven’t prepared properly.. To me it felt more like ‘scratching’ rather than hurting and pain-wise I’ve always been a real wimp.. If a person can’t handle pain at all there’s always a topical anaesthetic cream like Emla and if they ever decide they want to get rid of the tattoo apart from expensive laser treatments they can always use a 100% TCA peel - very cheap and effective..
