Many people from Pakistan who migrated to western countries are used to the lifestyle of western society. They are generally reluctant to take the intiative to settle back in their homeland because they have very bad image of Pakistan as a poor and corrupt country.
In fact there is a tendency to generalize that all the people over there are corrupt and the system is crap but I know many people who can migrate to west but they dont. They are neither too rich nor corrupt but they love their family and friends and they say that life is great over there in Pakistan. In fact I found many people in Pakistan more progressive and optimistic about future unlike immigrants here who are less optimistic because of ever increasing islam bashing. It all is personal choice. I know many families who have returend to Pakistan where thery are living happliy in Islamabad. Similarly lots of people from Pakistan are migrating to western countries and cycle goes on.

even ppl who grew up in the middle east and not the ‘west’ usually heads out again even if they move back to pakistan with their parents, so its not the western lifestyle.

and then one the topic of friends and family, once u are aborad for a long time, and especially hen most of yoru family is aborad too, your reasosn to move back become more limited, and a generation or two later, they become extremely limited.

but u hit the nail on the head, its personal choice. if ppl have reasons and motivation to do somthing they will do it against all odds or not do it even if it is easy

my dad left pak when he was in his 20s, lived abroad all his life, moved back to pak, scrapped the plans for a company he was setting up due to law and order situation, served as an advisor to the world bank and pakistani govt, worked as the CEO of a major company, and retired, and now wants to move back out of Pakistan, most of his siblings are abroad and all of us siblings are abroad too. he really has few reasons to stay, he is a fierce patriot but he has more reasosn to not live there now than to live there. Other members of my fmily who moved were there at the wrong time i guess, but after car jackings and kidnapping for ransom and all, they moved back out, and others saw their example and also moved back out.

In a way I feel very bad for my parents generation of people who moves abroad, they still had roots in pakistan they left for opportunity, with a goal to go back, and now their kids are abroad.
