People go to middle east with their own free will. Nobody forced them to go and work there.
Everyone looks for BETTER opportunity. These people are LIED to. First they charge them to go to Dubai by promising a secure job that will pay off their loans they took for the fee...
and then they lose their own money and do not get paid either. How sad can this get?
^ Shame of the people who lie to them... our own brethren in Pakistan, not the sheikhs.
Sad it is.
Don't you think it is a two way street - you can't just simply put the whole blame on Pakistani agents without bringing in the UAE authorities in the picture , who support this inhumane practice .
They are equally responsible for it - as they have loopholes in their system .
^ So the folks in Pakistan are stupid. You father is an educated person and stayed there for 20 years. It is a long enough time to realize what is going on but still he stayed on. When you make a CHOICE of living there in those conditions, why crib about it?
We are a nation of ever-complaining grumbles. We complain about the country that educates us and about the country that feeds us and DO NOTHING about improving the situation in either.
doing bla bla while sitting out of a pond and being in pond differs a lot... ask those who have been into this.. not those who cant move their @$$ out of their land cruisers.
^ Shame of the people who lie to them... our own brethren in Pakistan, not the sheikhs.
Sad it is.
these promises are NOT only made by our owns... I still remember when my father use to tell me how he survived with his UNI friends when he left his job in Grade 2 in banking at a very very best post in Punjab Bank of Pakistan at "that" time only in search of better opportunity.. and at that time it was LOCAL and none of agent. It was rather an ad in Pakistani newspaper!!
There is hardly any private sector company that is 100% owned by a local. Most such companies are partnerships between locals and foreigners, where the local gets a predefined share, and the foreigner operates the company.
The issue being discussed here is of laborers. No Emirati local goes into Pakistan/India and advertises in their papers for their need for a workforce. They hire desi employment agencies to bring in eg 500 laborers for them, and they agree to pay the agency 2500 or 3000 pm per laborer. The agency, which in almost all cases is desi owned, eats up 1500-2000 out of that, and gives the remainder to the laborer.
PS. Neither am I looking for, nor do I want UAE citizenship. Im very happy with a 3 year visa. Instead of simply badmouthing arabs or emiratis, it would be good to go to Pakistan and look at the advertisements carried out in papers for jobs in the UAE. See what those agents promise, and see what they deliver. Agents kay qaul-o-fa'el mein tazaad ho to iss mein sheikhon ka kya qasoor.
oh nice better sheikhs more baby... I was talking about govt sector... NOW ask me proofs and I will get you in talk with those who were DIRECTLY brought in by LOCALS on contract over embassy with a promising contract of 1200 AED in "private" sector andwere then offered 400 AED or nothing for a month..
I was BORN and raised there and if I have to go in their KANDOORA and wish to be one of those Ignorant then I could have done it for long ago.. but I like to be on the reality. They labeled me for the first day as Pakistani so I will think for my country fellows. I am not even doing any kind of favoritism.
These contracts things started when they changed their way to let small private companies finish the construction jobs. Those projects that are like forever or long. i.e Agriculture or municipality work or working in a small company that is some how related to transportation through GCC or others they are 90% mostly directly handled by Local or their administration. There can be agents who take money from people to put them on JOB in these sectores but later on they dont have anything to do with their wages. YES there are NOW such companies who hire labor from Asian countries and pay less or take more commission out of it. Though this thing is ALLOWED by them and if anyone try to think to raise a voice against it then he will 99% end in getting DNA and Eye Test BAN from GCC countries.. Because any Case that pass from their Court goes to their LOCAL court that is named as DEWAN... whatever the court or hight court or supreme court decide is useless as DEWAN is the ultimate court for them and is RUN BY ONLY LOCALS in favor of LOCALS.
What at DEWAN is decided is valid even though other courts decide in favor or against that person.
Buddy ask them who has been through all this. I even have visited their Grand Jail for men and childern. Both are around Al Watbah ( A Place in between Abu Dhabi and Alain) They didnt allow me in but I know someone who use to visit their relatives there and the case he was behind the bar was just too lame.. khair forget it as I dont need to talk about others.
A lot to say but only if you are into these situations.
Jeez why do you guys have to turn everything into an argument? God forbid nobody is comparing sheikhs (rehmatullah) with Pakistanis. Nobody implied that the royal sheikhs fly down to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh disguised as recruitment agents and lie to people. Everybody looks for a better opportunity, everybody is struggling. But just because you can provide opportunities doesn't mean you become the master of the people. Nothing justifies inhuman treatment, no matter who does it and for what reason. What is bad is bad. No matter who is doing it, be it the recruitment agents or Sheikhs, they are all involved. Everybody knows what goes on in these countries, yet nobody is willing to take any action, or even to say anything publicly. These labourers are denied of their basic rights, passports are confiscated, they are treated like chit, and you just cant look away because they chose to accept these jobs. Everybody is answerable for what they do, everybody involved in this cruelty will have to answer to every single man they are responsible for. As for you and me, at least lets not try to justify this crap.
The argument: "nobody forced the migrants to go to the UAE... they went on their own volition" may be seemingly correct, however, this is a classic case of EXPLOITATION... if you know that someone is poor (dirt poor), then you can pretty much have your way with them....this person is in no position to bargain...they have no rights. Muslim's exploiting other muslims (or anybody for that matter) is unfortunate.
It might be true that Pakistani labor agencies are the ones that take the lions share of the money that ought to have gone to the laborers.... HOWEVER, the UAE government can easily take steps to curb that... for instance, they can demand that companies in the UAE pay their employees directly rather than thru some third party.... The labor finding agency gets a one time lump sum and then is no longer responsible for the employee.
Dubai does have problems:
This is a country that has no industry, instead they rely on service (financial and tourism)... The problem is that it is all geared towards serving Europeans/Americans... due to the recent financial crisis in the West... dubai's fate was sealed.
Ask yourself, when a person visits a country what do they want to see...
nice beaches (Sorry but Dubai has horrible beaches, the gulf sea is not the place for beaches)
culture (The only culture is camel riding and picnic at the desert...) They dont have any history/nor architectural buildings (tall towers being the exception)
booze/partying/hot girls (Zilch)
shopping (Dubai is super expensive.... only by reputation)
weather (Way too hot... dubai produces more CO2 than any other country per capita)
outdoors, landscape, geography (Ill take pakistan for that)
If Dubai was smart, they would have positioned themselves as a pristine destination that is pro-business. Dubai has horrible anti-debtor laws, and not too long ago required that any new business you open up requires that you partner up with a local Emirati businessman.
Dubai chose to break every possible record you can imagine (tallest building/largest mall etc etc), which is typical of arab mentality which leans more towards extremes rather than moderation. Arabs are very ostentatious le and flashy people (pakistanis are similar) and they like to have the biggest and best without regard for practicality.
There was a great HBO special on the treatment of camel jockies in the UAE... very sad stuff!
