How does an Agnostic know he's not going to hell?

For atheists, it’s easy. They believe there is no God, so there’s definitely no hell.

However agnostics aren’t sure if there’s a God a not, that in itself is worrying at all. But what about hell, what if there is a God and what if he’s going to torture you, now that’s a troubling thought.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

i think agnostic people usually believe actions are louder than prayers and rituals, and that your morality shouldn’t depend upon the blackmail of eternal damnation or the bribery of a 1000 orgasms etc.

to an agnostic person, if you lived life as a good person, you shouldn’t have to worry if god exists or not. if he does and is fair, you are in good shape. if he exists and is a meanie who will fry you for not blindly believing in him with zero proof provided, he isn’t exactly all that nice, and everyone says he is. if he doesnt exist, you did alright anyway.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Hmm. But what if he’s not good and fair. What if he/she is egotistical, and takes offence to you not accepting his/her existence. What if he/she doesn’t like listening to arguments, so you sure can’t avoid hell by being a smart ass.

There’s still that problem of going to hell.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

I had a boss who openly declares himself as agnostic. A really nice chap and funnily enough he is Italian, ie from the motherland of the Catholic religion.

What I gathered from conversations with him is pretty much what queer says. He believes that there is a supernatural power that is running things, he however does not believe that religions are revelations from that power but are in fact man-made. He believes in doing good and being tolerant, but not in prayer, etc.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

well if you buy into the him being egotistical idea, then how do you know for sure your chosen religion is the one that’ll get you out of hell. over 99% of people stick to what they are born into. statistically it all looks pretty gloomy.

:frowning:

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

If you think it other way around, what if you you are wrong, what is gonna happen?

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

I can’t rationalize an egotistical God. To me He has to be the most fair and forgiving being. An egotistical God would be one who may be indifferent from watching people suffer. Would you really want to believe in God like this if you are religious?

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

I’m not :(.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

How can anyone be sure of anything?

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

^ Exactly.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Most religions say if you don’t join their religion you’re going to hell. So agnostics probly will go to hell twice over just cos of that.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

It comes down to what you think is the purpose of religion. Is it to increase membership and ensure that people follow its rituals? Or is it to teach people a moral lifestyle? If it’s the latter, then someone questioning religion, but still following its teachings, even if they don’t perform its rituals, should not matter.

Many of those who are unquestionably religious also tend to be lax about observing their faiths’ rituals. They will defend their faith and belief, but will continue to make excuses about why they are not good Muslims.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Do agnostics care about it enough?

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Agnostics care so much they feel your pain.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

If any one dont have firm believe in God, he is already in hell.

Maazrat for posting mullish gibberish in this thread.

continue with your thread.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

then that problem is there for those who believe in a benevolent, merciful god, too ; )

and your post really jsut goes against what more religions try to teach. sooo not sure what your point is.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

^
Well most religions teach that you go to hell if you don’t believe in their God. That’s how most religions can be summarized.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Re: How does an Agnostic know he’s not going to hell?

Not really true as far as Islam is concerned.

Islam as per Quran says Good Christians, Jews and Sabeens who
believe on God
Believe on last day of judgment
Do good, righteous deeds in life

CAN go to heaven.

Al-Baqara #2
Lo! Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans - whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right - surely their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve. (62)

This Iyat was in contrast to the Jews who believe only they can go to heaven just by the virtue of being Jews.
