How do you reply?

How do you reply to rude comments from the “family elders” like “why don’t you have another son”, “your kids are turning black”, "why are you healthy/weak"and the rest of the litany of rude questions/comments that people who you see once every five or six years feel obligated to make?

Oh, and my personal favorite “let’s have an understanding” regarding the future marriage of our children.

This seems like a rant, but I am dead serious - I just don’t have the patience to smile and be polite like I did in my younger days. Do you tell them what you think, or do you let them know their being unIslamic? I’d rather not spend four months answering stupid questions.

Re: How do you reply?

It's a shame that people like that exist.

Re: How do you reply?

u dont smile back but just give them a blank stare. expressionless. if they're not braindead or just plain evil they should get a clue that u're offended. and if they dont then u start picking on them :)

and about marrying your children. tell them you'd consult your children before deciding their future so they need to wait a while.

Re: How do you reply?

Damn, people so sensitive these days.

Re: How do you reply?

And why shouldn't she have a problem wthi stupid questions like that? Seriously= "why dont you have another son" :????

Re: How do you reply?

tell them "you dont have any daughter, who will my sons marry? why dont you have another daughter"

Re: How do you reply?

^ :rotfl: good one

I simply go in a very rude way I don’t need to answer anyone’s questions PERIOD. i dont have to answer questions like you mentioned but sometimes something close to it.

once my phoopo asked me and at that very moment i had enough of that women… i told her to stay at her house and i will stay at mine and we w ill keep the peace in between and i like it - i havent seen her in about good 3 yrs and dont want to see her either. she is a *****

Don’t have patience for this type of family drama

Re: How do you reply?

I usually give a very clear and honest question without hurting anyone's feelings or being offended. In the end what someone else thinks won't affect my decisions. I'm content in myself and it's nobody elses business.

Re: How do you reply?

How about being told you are a loser by yoru own uncle :teary1:

Re: How do you reply?

How about actually BEING a loser and not needing anyone to tell you that :sara:

Re: How do you reply?

Girls! Let me tell you something. When you will be in trouble or going through some hard times in yoru life NO one will come forward to help you out except yoru own parents or siblings plus the husband. So do yourself a favor start learnig to stand on your own 2 feet all alone without a support.

And this emotional drama bhaar mein pheenko us girls got other things to worry about such as pedicure and manicure ;) ;)

Re: How do you reply?

my God sara516…wat wrong wit u girl…life is too short to listen to stupid people like that… if someone makes a nasty comment about me i usually ignore them or tell them thats none of ur concern u ah*

Re: How do you reply?

Nia when you are having trouble looking for a job and your family instead of encouraging you, tells you to get one “RIGHT NOW” or you are a loser and you made a big mistake in life by choosing the major you choose and you are no good at home either it HURTS, that too coming from someone you once considered your best friend and trusted :teary1:
Anyways, I know what I am doing and i knew what i was doing back then too so yeah he can screw himself.

Re: How do you reply?

Phat, i get discouraged all the time coz someone says i haev such bad handwriting and that i will never get a job, and that since I already know english everything should be SO easy for me

Re: How do you reply?

Who do our younger people have such a short fuse? Sheesh! Talk about "angry young men" (or women, in this case). Calm down folks. Not everyone is out to get you. :-P

Re: How do you reply?

^ buss ussi nazaak hain :(

Re: How do you reply?

Lol Sara516, didnt someone tell you already to either speak urdu OR punjabi. Try not to mix 'em together, ok?

Amana: You have more experience in dealing with others I am sure. Its all find and dandy to be stern about it but since you are going for a short while, i would just ignore these comments and stay quite. Let your husband deal with his family else you will be seen as the "bad guy". And if they are truly getting on your nerves, gently remind them that its none of their buisness.

Re: How do you reply?

ignore them
it used to bother me all the time hearing negative comments especially from my mom and this chick i used to be friends with. I would get upset and they would mock me more for getting upset.
now, i just ignore them. the "friend" was easy, i stopped talking to her but my mom...i tell ya it's tough but if you learn to let it go in one ear and out the other you'll be a heck of a lot happier for it

Re: How do you reply?

I wasnt speakin punjabi ??? :bummer:
