how do you give gifts?

when you gift someone, do you almost always give them only what’s necessary/what they need? something of a splurge? cash/gift cards so THEY can decide? or whatever you want to get rid of from your closet?

Re: how do you give gifts?

after knowing their likes and dislikes

^ very reason, I prefer Gift cards. People have too much nakhrey

Re: how do you give gifts?

If its someone I know well, I try to know what their wishes are and buy according to those. If its someone I dont know so well, I will give them a giftcard for something so that they can buy whatever they wish to.

I know two people who are horrible at giving gifts. At first I thought it was just a bad mistake or something, but with time I've learned it is their tendency. I know I know, gifts are their choices and we should be happy with whatever they give and etc etc. And I truly am. Alhamdulillah, I've the ability to buy whatever I wish for, but when you repeatedly recieve "old" clothes as a huge asaan from their side "Dekho main tumhare liye kitne ache kapde laye hoon" .. Or while you're paying attention to their likes and dislikes and their gifts show they give a **** about yours. Its sort of gets annoying and hurtful.

Cash, check, or gift cards.

Re: how do you give gifts?

i never get gifts…so i don’t give gifts either :snooty:

if i were to give, i would give cash…

Re: how do you give gifts?

:rotfl:

OP: it depends, if i know particular need of that person and if that is under my budget then I would prefer to gift, else if person is in need and particular thing is not in my budget, I will simply give money so that person could use it accordingly. so yes, it works in both ways. most people like cash and it always works.

Re: how do you give gifts?

Thank God, I dont have a gift closet. When I have to gift someone, I do try to keep in mind their taste and things they enjoy. Last month I was visiting an american friend, I made a small pack of handmade cards, chocolate bar, and a nice scented candle. She loved it. The friend who hosted my baby shower, I gifted her a set of my cards and took some baklawa (she loves baklawa), gifted another friend a beautiful flowering plant with a pretty pot, she loved it as she enjoys gardening. We went to congratulate a desi friend on the birth of their baby, I bought a really pretty blanket, another friend had a wedding shower and she did not have a registry so I gifted her some pretty picture frames. If it is a special occasion and the person does not have a gift registry, I try getting something neutral that will be useful or get a gift card.

Re: how do you give gifts?

I know what you mean. But it seems like a terrible thing to ever even mention. I have a very very very dear friend, I love her to bits, but she’s not the best at giving gifts but I don’t care…since she’s such a good friend it doesn’t bother me. On the other hand…i had a friend who put in so much thought that it bordered on insulting.

Good, my birthday’s tomorrow :chai:
