Because they historically haven’t been “treated with respect and equality in India” and they have no interested in being a part of India. Don’t the Kashmiris get any say in the matter?
Going back to the original topic, while I think I’ve made my opinion of India’s government and armed forces abundantly clear, I have no problem with Indian people as individuals, and I do have some Indian friends.
