Once at lunch my professor (gora jew) asked me if i can differentiate Pakistani vs Indians and I said yes- he immediately said- because they're fairer in comparison?
Besides the obvious ways such as turban, hijab and the red marks in head and all- I think the way they speak is also different. Listen to Pakistanis speak Urdu vs Indians speak hindi!
its been two years, and i still cant tell apart between a pakistani and an indian ... unless the girl is wearing shalwar kameez or hijab ... the guys i can never tell ...
so what are the tricks?
no tricks needed. just smile and say hi, introduce yourself and ask them where they are from and take it from there.

Farrah I can usually differentiate between Pakistanis and Indians. Pakistanis tend to be light skinned compared to Indians. There's also something about the way they dress that helps in distinguishing. With Pakistani ladies they tend to be very trendy ( from the ones i've seen). The way people talk can give away where they're from.

no it’s not that i am specifically looking for a pakistani friend, and excluding others … but it’s nice to know good pakistanis too 
it’s a bit awkward though to randomly start talking to people in the mall you know

I can tell Indians and Pakistanis apart.
Indians are more dark skinned, usually wear shorts, talk in English despite their thick accents.
Pakistanis are more fair skinned, usually wear jeans, talk in Urdu despite if they have no accents.
