Re: How do you decide????
i knw...i m excited :D
Don't you guys have anybody back home who can oder for you? Because prices like 5 lakhs is bit too much especially when its only nickie n nina and not a bigger name. So i am sure they put in such prices because they know its $ earning, lol. So if someone back home can oder for you that would be alot better.
BUT having said that, i havent really checked out bridal prices for 2-3 years now so yah maybe they have indeed increased. Will try to check 2morow if possible and share with you guys.
Re: How do you decide????
The prices have definitely gone up! My sister got married 4 years ago and her bridal cost a third of what I paid for and it was beautiful Mashallah!
I hate forking over so much money for something I will wear only once to twice...but...what other choices do we have? :(

Re: How do you decide????
I wanted RED!! and I went thru a million bridal dresses...before giving up and going with my gut ...i knew what i wanted...one color...classic..and non sparkly.. :)
Fortunately i stumbled upon an awesome designer in Dallas..who although resides here..but has her boutique in Lahore and Karachi...and for the past 20 years has been catering to desis in US and Canada...a mutual friend introduced us..and we hit it off quite well....did our sketches..I picked out the material from Dallas..and sent it off with the ideas and notes...
both my mehndi and rukhsati outfits came out amazing..unique and thankfully she never ever ever reproduces the same one ever again.. :)...her sworn promise to all her customers...
she designs for the clintons..gov. rick perry's familia.. :) ambanis etc..but..is sooooooo humble and down to earth...she tells you up front what can and cannot be done within a certain budget...yet never disappoints...
i think if you cannot trust your designer..no matter who it is...the fun evaporates....for me it is very important to connect with the person who is making your clothes...because it is what you wear...and what you wear..represents YOU..in the end...not your designer..

That's the thing, some people don't have any relatives back home OR if they do they can't really trust them.
My mom's relatives chose my wedding dress and the other stuff, and ill make it clear, I love my relatives and they are good people.. we just have very different tastes in clothing/fashion. I hated the dresses, even though i had sent pictures of what i had wanted.
I have always been very assertive of what colour/cut/model I like/dislike on myself. So I had an overall picture of what I wanted. I found my wedding dress on the 2nd day (lol). Then I just did a few minor adjustment.
I think the makeup and jewelry turned out to be more difficult to decide on.
Re: How do you decide????
^ Awww... that's sad :(.
Re: How do you decide????
Yeah I want a dress that no one else has. I don't want to wear something that someone else did. And I don't want the person who made my dress making copies of it to sell afterwards! Maybe I'll get a patent on it.....hahaha
Re: How do you decide????
I wasnt able to go to Pakistan for my clothes so I looked through a mountain of bridal magazines and then clipped two pictures and sent those to get made

My outfit cost me an arm and a leg...Im making some pants/shalwar to go with it so I can wear it again to family weddings later.

Thats smart, I wish I had made my shirts a tad bit longer as well so I could wear it as a kameez again later!
^ Awww... that's sad :(.
Why is that sad?
Re: How do you decide????
^i think she meant that for saras post.
Re: How do you decide????
everyone has different tastes/ideas in their minds and also know their own bodies and what will suit/compliment it
Re: How do you decide????
good experiances.
picking lengha colours
how did you pick your lengha colours?
did you decide 1st you wanted a certain colour, or did you go shopping and just pick the best one?
Re: picking lengha colours
if you have a color that suits you or that you'd love to wear, thats a start.
if you have no idea, check out the bridal pics thread and see if you like anything from there/or go shopping.
Re: picking lengha colours
another good place to start is what colors you know you DONT want to wear. Sometimes you walk into a boutique and you see a lehnga and its love at first sight. I dont think there is any particular formula
Re: picking lengha colours
I knew I wanted a traditional look on the wedding, so red was the best option, but I tried on lots of different shades to find the one that suited me the most before having my outfit made.
For the valima I had some colours in mind, but when I went shopping fell in love with an outfit, the colour of which suited me luckily so I picked that.
