^^^ Thats so true. If the only reason why you think she is unattractive is because she is on the heavier side, then you need to think again.
If she feels she needs to lose weight, then she should try for herself. But if she is happy & confident as she is, then no one else should have a problem with her weight! As for marriage, it'll happen when it has to, maybe the right guy for her just hasn't come along yet?.. Personally, I think theres nothing you, as her brother's friend, can do.
Parents of unattractive girls, should identify problem at early stages.(when the girls are young)
Then they need NOT to tell the princess that "one day a prince is going to come marry you"
Then should cut down there expense and save some money, to compensate theirs SIL for marrying their unattractive girl.
So to sum it up, some folks are saying that the woman should be "proud" in however she look's like. And wait for somone who'll find beauty in her. On the other hand, the opinion is that regardless of what her self-image is, she should continue to improve herself (by losing weight etc). That'll make the odds of her finding a decent man better.
I agree with the poster to some extent.. now days, the Inlaw or the guy himself goes for the looks first and then the whole personality.. which is okay I guess there is nothing wrong with that, but if she is unattractive, ask her to be more confident in her self.. be more up beat, have a positive personality.. etc etc.. I'm sure she will rock someone's sock one day.. I have seen many unattractive girls having a great hubby, presumably they got some other talent hidden some where .. so it can be difficult but certainly not impossible.

that makes perfect sense, but these days the unattractive males in our desi society still want a "super model". their moms want one for their sons more than the sons themselves do.

ive seen countless western goris who are on the heavy side and manage to find gorgeous men....its our pakisism...thats tells us that only fair and slim is attractive...i hate...
im fair..but was overweight ( AND STILL AM NOT SKINNY) IM curvy, now if i was gori it be perfect size, hoever im paki, so im motti.....and my cusins who are underweight anorexic fobs are `smart
my best friend is dark......but slim......shes been told countless times to bleach away...

Thats very much opposite to desi culture, curviness is considered good among desi men and women, its usually the western women who starve themselves to be thin. As for colour, i agree with you.
hmm you know in sociology studies it was found that people don't want to be with the supermodel, most beautiful guy/girl. People find the male/female version of themselves most attractive. This also explains lack of biracial relationship as well...the more you look like your hubby or wife, the better for your marriage(Altho maybe not for desi's cuz we avoid divorce much more thankfully)
Jewel already provided the correct answer......unattractive girls get married the same way unattractive guys get married.....when the right rishta comes along. There are always compromises that can be and are made.
But it seems to me that even the original poster does not realize his real dilemma.....how to get his friend to stop talking to him about this unattractive sister.
no it called living with the facts. i believe that i am not attractive myself, but you still have to live.
and that is why getting marrying at the moment is not my priority.
ps. we all must see what kinda person we actually deserve. and usually good looking guys are the biggest jerks. not only they are full of themselves, but also they do their best in treating everyone as a trash.
besides, if she gets marry to some hunk then the chances are she always will feel insecure all the time. so its good to not to concentrate and stress a lot about beauty. and polish her other skills.
