It's about having clear boundaries in your mind. If you do end up indulging in a temptation, that boundary was not set by you for yourself in the first place.

God made people totally prone to mistakes and imperfect so that attraction towards whatever temptation it is becomes stronger. some people are just better at dealing with it than others. they've trained themselves. i would not be one of those strong people :D :p....i try though
i always wonder how monks or priests go their whole lives not indulging in all these temptations we're surrounded by

I am usually good at avoiding temptations but lately, I have been falling for stupid chocolate bars and other junk that is not even all that great :(.
My parents didn't brought me up in an environment where their children get all those things what they desire for. I Alhumdullah have patience, stability and self controls over desires. and the more your explore the true essence of Islam the better way you learn that you should be thankful to ALLAH SWT every second. "Wo day tak bhi shuker, wo na day tab shuker".
So you and your parents both construct your personality. there is no need to be reckless.
Temptation is never a bad thing. It means we are human. More so it gives us options and choices and those define us. Sometimes giving into temptation is good. Its a life experience. Sometimes it ****s you up like drugs or killing.
Willpower. Or, Indifference. I can never decide between the two.
so with willpower do you use prayer to make your willpower stronger in order to resist? indifference to something that is on your mind most of the time, how can you train your mind to do that?
***There’s this saying…Everything I want is either illegal , immoral or fattening !
To err is human , to resist is the test…
Somethings U resist ! Other times U succumb…The decision depends entirely on how much your tempted and how you perceive the consequences would affect you !
Right now I’m tempted for some dark chocolate…Should I ? Shouldn’t I ? ***
Sheesh!!! with all the people here obsessing over chocolate :khums: …I’ll just send you guys some!! Halloween is right around the corner.
It’s OK to eat a bit here and there… there are much bigger things to be tempted from. Chocolate is the least of my worries or yours… so go ahead…Enjoy your snickers.

Ooh, a chance to preach. Excellent.
I tend to save my prayers for loved ones (and for my endangered soul :(). The only way I know to strengthen willpower is to exercise it. Indifference is more difficult, and it depends on what that something on your mind is. Do you feel comfortable enough to share it? If not, fair enough, then the only thing I can currently think to say is that the thing that haunts your mind is just, at its most basic, a cluster of thoughts. They exist whether you want them to or not, but if you think it through then you'll see that they have no actual power to affect you; and once you see that, really see that, you'll be on the path to indifference.
Never put oneself in a position where they will be tempted. Don't do that and problem solved. However if one does find themselves in a tempting position, use will-power and akal, I am sure noone is weak enough.
