I dont want to hear about the halal and haram thing.

I just want to know how do people do it? What are the rules? Are there rules?

What I mean to ask is - how do people become boyfriend and girlfriend?

Well I use wife and girlfriend interchangeably now, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

good thread reha i always wanted to know how desis date. my parents always saw it as a no no so i have no clue what's done to get to the date stage and after after

They meet at their place of study/ work/ leisure and fall in love at first sight. Simples.

Desi's date is exactly like a non desi date. A normal first date does not end up in bed on the very first night (I dont care what Bond movies or Sex in the City tell you, it does not happen like that in USA)

  1. First date is usually a double date where a couple who is already in a relationship introduces his friend to her friend. EIther that or a single person hooks his female acquaintance to a male friend.

  2. Then the middle party interviews both guy and girl separately to learn what do they think. If they were ok then middle party arranges for a l mid day date where only the guy or girl gets together for coffee or ice cream.

  3. Then they can decide whether to carry on or its not going to work.

Example case:

Guy and girl meet at a dinner. Start talking, nothing serious but hav mutual respect and attractiveness. Go off to sit with respective friends, but still manage to talk a couple of times during the night. At the end of the dinner, guy asks girl for name to add on facebook. On fb, guy asks girl out for lunch. Girl says she'l think about it. Girl invites him for a smaller meal with some mutual friends. Get on well together. Go out for lunch. etc etc

It's just the normal hungama.

And in answer to your question, there are only rules if you make them. In above case, I turned down guy after the smaller meal. Wasn't comfortable with the idea of dating, but I know many who wouldn't bat an eyelid.

It happens all the time... at least in the UK... I guess desis are just better at hiding it from the parents..

Visit Lawrence garden in the afternoon and you can see many young lovers dating.
Pretty innocent and cute. It was like that back then... I don't know now...much has changed in Pakistan.
