I just want to know how do people do it? What are the rules? Are there rules?
What I mean to ask is - how do people become boyfriend and girlfriend?
I guess desi style dating is different. Both parties get to know each other which leads them to marriage?. I mean it is the idea of just not even officially together, not serial dating, and not just friends (with benefits), but a relationship between two people agreed upon by both persons and they didnt have an official title together (and they trusted, without saying that they wouldnt do anything with anyone else), and they told each other to just act like friends but as a couple.

It's not much different from the gora-log's dating. You go out on dates and plans for your shadi after the 2nd date

Simple.
You meet a guy at a common friend's place. You kinda like what you see. You pass these strange looking smiles, talk like you're the most soft spoken person on the face of the earth though in reality these huge motichoor laddoos are phooting inside your belly. The guy becomes extremely svelte.
Then he/she whoever is more gutsy, asks the friend to arrange another meeting so they all go for a banana split at the neighborhood Denny's and the entire desi neighborhood kids come along.
Slowly but surely they gather enough courage to go watch Tangled.
And then...the dating begins :@:

The same exact way whites, blacks, hispanics, or any other race of people become "boyfriend" and "girlfriend". Among the desis I know that "date" (including myself)...there really is no difference b/c the way we date and the way our "non-desi" friends date.
Guy and girl meet. Usually guy asks the girl out on a date. Assuming the 1st date goes well, there are more dates to follow. After a while (the time depends on the individual couple), the two people have a "talk" and decide they're in a exclusive relationship. After a few months or a year or so...there are talks of marriage.

That is in essence DATING. Period.
