At 17 Mom was told she was marrying my dad - who is incidentally 17 years older than her.
She hated him on sight because she's a very immaculate person - and at 34 he looked old to her and wasn't too fussed about his own appearance lol!
He hated her cos he didn't wanna get married and now they sit til late into the night and talk about the 'good old days'

My parents are cousins in relationship but they liked each other since childhood but since they were shy so they didnt tell each other about the crush they had on each other. then my grandparents (both mothers and fathers parents) wanted at least one of their children to get married to each other so my grandmother asked my father if he wanted to marry my mothers sister but my father said no he wanted to marry my mother and thats how they got married.

My dadi scouted for girls across Pakistan for ages, and visited my mums house back and forth for a year before proposing. They were engaged for 9 months in which they never saw each other. I guess thats the story with most of that generation.

My mom's cousin was married to my Taya Abu, she arranged my mom's rishta with her devar.
I went to Pakistan a few years back. A relative told me that my parents got married because my dad saw my mom at some wedding and liked her. Later he asked his family to ask for rishta.
Not sure if any of it is true. All i know, it was arranged.

My dad's first marriage (to my older sister and my mom) was a love marriage... she was Russian, he was already engaged (mangny) from childhood with his chachas daughter but he dated my mom for 3 years and married her against the will of his family... he was 24, she was 21, long story short, when my sister was 3 and i only 8 months old, my mom abandoned us, and the girl my dad was engaged to before was still single (she was still only 22) he realized his mistake, we needed a mother, therefore they got married....
