Did anyone of your parent ever told you how and where did they first meet? My parents had an arranged marriage but my grandmother set them up…
It went like this… my dad was home on veccation from saudia and my mom, who was also their neighbour and my aunt’s friend, was over for lunch. So my gradma sent dad to take a picture of aunt and her friend (my mom)…he went took the picture and came back. After my mom left, grandma asked dad if he liked the girl and he being my sharif dad said ke wasn’t looking at her and just took the picture
PS: I respect and understand everyone’s feeling on this matter and expect the same from you all.
My phopho and khala were friends. My grand father always wanted a parhi likhi baho. Knowing this my Phopho took the task to settle everything. She liked one of her friend's elder sister who was a masters in philosophy and then she told my grand papa about this girl. Dada jaan approved and they got married. An arranged marriage.
My mom's family was settled in Karachi and then Hyderabad. My father's family in Lahore. They came to visit for some wedding. My mom was offering ice cream to everyone. My father was a "maamoo" to my mom by relation. So she went to him and said, "Mamoo jee ice cream khaa lein." My dad jokes and tells us that my mom was so thin and he told her, "Nahi jee aap apni shakal sambhaalein." Then my mom argues why he sent her sisters to ask her hand (my father's parents died when he was very small) and approached her like crazy if he didnt like her face.
We have some funny stories from both of them. My mom says she hated his mustache. My father got rid of it.
My mother's grandfather and my father's grandfather were best friends in India and moved to Pakistan together. The families were extremely close so my parents knew each other their whole lives before getting arranged to be married.
yeah i forgot to add what my mom had to say about that meeting…since it was summer time my dad was wearing t-shirt and a shalwar (wierd combination) and my mom said to herself that whats wrong with this guy and what is he wearing… probably thats the reason my mom never liked us wearing shirt or a t-shirt with shalwar, which is normal in Pakistan.
LOL my sibling does that as well .. wears a t-shirt and a shalwar underneath my father says it looks crazy and i think it kinda looks kurdish :D but yeah wear whatever you like..
My dad was a distant relative of my nanni. Came and went often and had his rishta proposed to my nanni. My mom only saw him a few times, raised no objection and agreed like all good pakistani girls did back then Thats it really, not much else.
Father was an Army Officer and mommy was in Girl Guide during 1965 War, he saw her and fell in Love, Grandfather went to Nanni's place after war, and as a result they got Married:)
