Did you get a ring before the actual engagement day? **No, I did not get a ring on the engagement day as well.
**Did you help pick out your ring? **No, as I said earlier I did not get one.
**Did you pick out your mangni dress? or did ur MIL? MIL picked it. It was a bottle green churidaar pajama. I have wore it countless times after marriage as well. Can't wear it now as the kaam has turned black.
How many people attended your engagement? around 180-200. I am really not sure about the count as my parents did the invites. It was at home.
How long after your engagement was your shaadi? almost 7.5 months
What all happened during the actual event? I was brought in after hubby and family arrived. We were garlanded by countless relatives. Cousins took photos with personal cameras(No professional photoshoot or rings) Dinner was served outside.
**Did you consider yourself (verbally) engaged before the actual day of engagement? **No.
I am in the same boat as soundarya. when the guy gets a ring its usually for a wedding not for an engagement. i have seen people give guy a wallet with money in it, watches, outfits, etc etc. It is odd for the guy to wear a ring but you two are not married.
I like how the arabs are doing it! thats cool!
I've mostly seen the guy get a ring on the engagement day and I also find that a little strange at times. If not that, then yes, a watch is given... but then the fiance could already have a watch that he really likes.
Some Arabs do things a little differently and it's interesting. I've noticed that when they get engaged, if the guy is given a ring, he'll wear it on his right hand. Then after the wedding, he'll switch to his left hand. The girls will do this too sometimes. My Arab female friends who are engaged or maybe had their nikkah (but no wedding), will wear their ring on their right hand and switch to the left the day of the wedding.
here in germany - left is engagement - right wedding
