Was it planned ? or was it something you got in accidently and then carried on with it coz you found your feet in the field?

I was not allowed to do wht I wanted to...and education feild was the only option left....so ended up in it...

wasn't good at biology or maths.....don't like literature/arts.........so didn't know what i liked/was good at.......ended up in professional accountancy.

.. mine is a dukhi dustaan too … i wanted to become an IT professional … but became a HR professional purely accidently

My career change was planned. Back in the days I saw ERP was hot and so much in demand so I did some certifications and jumped in rest is needs a book to write about it all.

i've loved hardware of any kind, when i was 12 i used to open up dvd players, pcs, any type of gadget just to see how it works with my dad. so the fascination was always there.
being the only girl in my classes was bit hard, i would try my hardest to fit in with the guys in my group but as long as i was up to par with my skills, that feeling I get when I finally know that this is the career for me ie. hardware/networking is priceless.

***It was decided before conception I think that I would be a Doctor AND an ObGyn by my Maternal Grandmother and my Mom !!! 
Ever since I could remember it was a foregone conclusion that that was the chosen career for me and I never really questioned it , well except for all of 5 minutes of “rebellion” where I considered my options , realized I sucked at Maths or Arts or any other subject and then it was onto Medicine !
It helped that I did well on science subjects, fortunately or unfortunately !

awww sheynie … similar story with me , though my rebellion lasted a few years and I ended up not heading the medicine way and I so totally totally regret it now .. wish i hadnt rebelled :hinna:

I'm a computer science graduate, and didn't enjoy working in IT as a 9-5, so marketing came up, I just blagged it I suppose, but it worked. I did have experience in my own business that I set up. Actually I dabble in a few things, variety is the spice of life and all that.

My mum and dad had always droned on that they wanted me to be a doctor...from as far as memory goes. I recall my dad getting me a human body encyclopedia for my eighth birthday, while I wanted a game.
Didn't become a doctor. I did my post grad in finance...but that's not the line I pursued either. When I had my daughter, I started looking at schools and the ways in which children can learn best. I went back to uni...did my PGCE and I am now a teacher.
I love my work...it's extremely gratifying and great when you can hack it!

**its a lonnnnng story. to make it short, i had an unusual and unique start. i lived in a village until age 14. never lived in a city b4. i also never went to school. my dad and big bro wud teach home school me may be a couple of hours on a couple of days in a week. irony is my dad was a principle in a village high school. my dad knew that schools in villages at that time were teaching nothing and the kids learned bad things instead. so, when my big bro got a teaching job at AligaRh Muslim University only then i moved to the city with him.
i studied well and got accepted in med school. the same year my big bro who i was living with moved to the US to do his PhD and as a result i moved into the university's residence. i had no elder watching over me and on top of that my bro sent me my lavish monthly stipened in US dollars * so i dropped my crystal bowl. at the end of my first year in med school i was kicked out coz my attendance fell way short [35% as opposed to min required 75%] i skipped classes, watched too many movies and hung out with friends 24/7.
after that life was a living hell. so metophorically speaking, every1 effectively condemned me to die so i contemplated suicide but thanx to Allah i found solace in namaz and became a good boy. left everything. unwillingly i saought admission in BSc with major in Botany. finished my BSc then my bro helped me immigrate to Canada and i went to university right away. i met this lady who was very kind to me and became my supervisor and under her i finished my MSc and PhD in Horticulture and then she gave me a job as piost doc researcher.
we went to New Zealand lastin January, 2010 and we worked there together until a horrible thing happened. she got diagonosed with cancer and we had to return to canada 2 months prematurely in november. she is undergoing treatment and hence took off from work for three months and as a result i'm laid off for that period of time. inshaa Allah, i'll be back to work in Feb.
thats how i ended up in my profession and thanks Allah it turned out that way. i was a lost soul when i hit my rock bottom.
plz pray for Susan, my supervisor. May Allah cure her cancer and give her full recovery...aameen***

My parents always wanted me to become a doctor, but I hated science. So, I ended up doing law. Lately I have been thinking about going back to school to do PHD in psychology, but haven't been able to convince myself yet about going back to school.

I wanted to be a soldier... served my time well but if was a little dissapointing at times... winning every fight yet losing the war is so unfair almost the epitome of cruelty.
But things led me here and I simply got myself noticed and before I knew it I was up the ladder like a fireman. To be honest my current job sprang from the shadows and I'm glad I took it.
