Re: How Common is Fornication Among Pakistanis
I think it is between 15% to 20%. I personally know many cases (not based on rumors but reality) in my friends circle, family and in the village. Usually if a girl says she’s done it then believe that shyte is real but when a guy says he’s done it then give him benefit of the doubt.
As a guy I can understand men’s perspective on this, it can be about thrill, bragging about being a man, getting rid of frustration/tension or personal satisfaction of achieving something. Very seldom its about love and with the intention of marrying the girl afterwards. A guy easily escapes the blame and hardly pays the price of fornicating before the marriage in our society. Families will usually keep quiet or will put the blame on the girl whereas other male friends, cousins will start to envy him.
But what a girl gets out of this encounter? She knows she will pay a heavy price as compared to the guy in our society, her family may ground her, her social circle may call her names and look down upon her and future married life becomes very uncertain. So is it about the money (for sex workers Yes but for the next door girl?) status of the guy? the thrill? the love or they need to release tension like guys need to do without thinking about consequences?
Enjoyment? Or she loves the guy and wants to take the relationship to that next level? Those consequences obviously only happen if the parents and others who disapprove find out..
