Have you tried to lookup his info on facebook, orkut etc? You can get some hints about the person from their photos, messages.
Also asking him to meet your friend's brother is a good idea.. that way she will get an independent perspective. Has she thought about involving her parents and asking them to meet this guy? And most importantly, what "vibes" did she get after meeting him in the mall?

As a side note - one of my best friends from college married a guy who proposed to her over MSN messenger the first time they ever spoke! We (i.e. her friends) were completely weirded out by this at that time, but they are very very happy together now. So, you never know!!

Yeah, as I said we found it extremely weird! He added her on messenger because he happened to like her profile somewhere.. they chatted for hours the first time they spoke and in the end he proposed. They didn’t get married till about a year after that.. but seeing how happy they are now.. well I’m glad they met!
