How are mohajirs (i.e. Pakistanis whose parents/grandparents came from India) answering the race question on the US Census form?
Asian Indian or Other Asian(write-in Pakistani)?
Remember, the question is about race and not national origin.

Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
**A nice attempt .....
neways ....
since Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, NWFP were all part of India .... so I don't think the answer of mohajirs should be different from them (although Pakistanis whose parents/grandparents came from India and are born in Pakistan can't be mohajirs)

Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
attempt at what? It was a genuine question
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
why would it matter where my grandparents or great grandparents came from if i'm filling out the US census form?
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?

Do you even know what race mean? It is just a friendly question. :)
And when you said it is not about national origin and can differentiate between race and national origin then you should know the answer.
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
I will check other and write in atlantis
I dont want to be associated with any current races.
How are mohajirs (i.e. Pakistanis whose parents/grandparents came from India) answering the race question on the US Census form?
We are not answering that question. We are told to write 'Please come to laloo khait and ask the same question again' and that is our response.
attempt at what? It was a genuine question
IM curious as to where you, your parents and grandparents are from.
Regardless, if you know the difference between race and nationality...then you've asked a pretty stupid question. Sorry to be so harsh but then again you kind of deserve it for trying to create differences between Pakistanis...like we need more of those.
Like someone said earlier...all of Pakistan was India at one point. THere is no difference between mahajirs, punjabis, balochis, pathans, etc when it comes to race.
why would it matter where my grandparents or great grandparents came from if i'm filling out the US census form?
Yes, krash...why?
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
okay theres some deep underlying sense to this question that I just dont get. quetly backing away
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
I have heard my ancestors ate an apple and then did hijrat to this world. What is my race?
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
Gosh! you guys are so sensitive!
I am sorry I ever asked the question.
Just asking a question is an attempt to divide Pakistanis?
Did I ever imply that anyone would be less of a Pakistani if the answer was one or the other?
For the record, I wouldn't doubt the Pakistani-ness of anyone whatever they claim their race is.
The reason I asked the question is because I have heard of both answers among my very small group of acquaintances and was wondering what a larger group would be thinking.
But, you guys have too many chips on your shoulders. Not a single person answered!
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
BTW, we are all Indian Asians.
East-Indian is a misnomer.
In the UK we use the term South-Asian which is more correct and it refers to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives.
It is a geographical location, not an ethnic or racial identity.
South-Asians are racially diverse and mixed, in the South you have Dravidians and in the North East you find Mongloid people and in other regions such as the Punjab and Pashtunkhwa people are mixed raced.
I am against terms like East-Indian and Indian-Subcontinent as Pakistanis we should campaign against their use.
The proper terms South-Asian and South-Asian Subcontinent which we should all try and use.
Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
Another thing which irritates me is when Pakistani cuisine (dishes that are particular to the Indus Valley) or Bangladeshi cuisine are marketed as Indian cuisine in the UK.
Resteraunts and Take-Aways need to start marketing their food as South-Asian Cuisine instead to represent us all, especially since they are owned by Pakis and Bangis.
Recently I saw the advertisement on TV for a resteraunt which advertises itself as “Authentic Pakistani Cuisine”, it’s nice to see somebody giving positive exposure to our own country.

Re: How are mohajirs filling out the census form?
Pakistani, being Pakistani doesnt mean you are fixed to a particular land.... Pakistan was created for the Muslims so deen came first.
It doesn't matter where in Asia you came from so long as you were loyal to the call of the deen.
My great uncle was in Hong Kong and was a British citizen but upon hearing the call he went AWOL to get back in time and help Pakistan and the poor muhajirs who flocked to the new republic.
He bought with him his Chinese wife today her sons are all proud Pakistanis. It dont matter where you came from before so long as your loyal to Islam anyone can be a Pakistani technically.
BTW, we are all Indian Asians.
This is a fallacy based on the lie that "it was all once India".
Pakistan and India have never been one country, they have simply been part of the same Empire under mostly foreign rule.
A Country and an Empire are two completely different things.
My region of Pakistan was once part of the Greek Empire does that make me the same as Greeks?
The British Empire in India and the presetnday Republic of India are two completely different entities.
If anything Pakistan existed before India because we got our independence on 14/08/47 and India on 15/08/47.
Even today India and Pakistan are not nation-states in the truest sense, there are a multitude of different ethnicities in both countries so they should both be multi-national confederations.
There is no one cultural/ethnic identity which binds the whole of India or the whole of Pakistan, let alone Pakistan and India.
We only have any real culturo-ethnic similarities with the small part of India directly bordering us which is occupied Khalistan (Punjab) and the Urdu-Hindi areas.
Other than Punjabi and Urdu-Hindi we have no similarities with India. A Pashtun has nothing to do with a Tamil and vice versa.
Pakistanis mainly mislead into believing we are the same because of Hindi movies and dramas but we understand these better than Indians, a lot of Indians (such as my Keralite friends) can't even understand Urdu-Hindi.
