For desis point of view (specially from Karachi), its a nice place. I've visited Houston few times, except heat there's nothing much to worry about.

I guess it's too late to give my opinion since you've already accepted the offer. It's an excellent place to live. I've been here for more than ten years and except for the horrible traffic, you'd love the place. I would suggest living close to your work. Houston has a large and educated community of Pakistanis unlike Canada and the North East. Let me know when you get here and if you need more info.
