Re: Household
My hubby was to lazy to open an account, so his salary goes to my account. This way we both know exactually how much we are earing, so u may call it a joint account. Plus my account is almost free as I work for that bank.
We both have our own visa cards.
We pay half half, once we sat down and wrote our monthly expenses down.
So his leftover is transfered to a saving account in my bank, well I dont have any leftover
I end up spending his money. He takes cares of holidays/plane tickets/pak shopping.
We do weekly grocery shopping together, take the money from the joint account, I also take an amount out monthly for myself. I try to stay in the limit, which is not allways possible.
Before marriage I was very fazool karch. Now thanks to my husband, I am a bit better I try to control myself, which u know ladies how hard it is. You need money for new hair cut, seen some new lipstick/makeup, I love real jewerly.
cloths ect…
Plus I pay my gym membership/university courses from my own account, so no saving from my part right now.
Re: Household
Where are you based Chameli? And does your hubby not work?
I think you misunderstood me. He pays most of the stuff while I have to pay some of the bills now 1 yr after the wedding. the first yr he pampered me a lot, never asked me to pay for anything but when I found out about the financial situation I have started to pay a few bills regularly so that he isnt overloaded.
Re: Household
My husband takes care of everything as he is financially responsible for taking care of me and our household and I take care of things at home. Hubs and I have a joint account- when I need to make a purchase, I draw from that account. Whatever I earn, I keep and use as I see fit. Having said that, some things I do pay for myself- some personal items/pampering stuff like facials, gym membership, gifts for friends or hubs etc.
Re: Household
okk this is gonna sound harsh . but he pays for EVERYTHING and after that also for my junk shopping and zaroori shopping and groceries and kids stuff and i safe keep all my salary .. i m such a stingy stingy person .. but i tell him hey ,., i cook and clean too so why should i have to contribute..
i kno i m bad
Re: Household
We don't have any "system" per say. It's a joint account and both our salaries go into that. We also have a savings account. Although he's asked me to open another account for my salary so that I can do whatever I want with the money, but what fun is spending your own money? :p All our bill payments, and shopping is done from that same account.
Re: Household
My wife earns and pays all the bill, I play golf! :jano:
Re: Household
We have a joint account. My husband works and I am studying. Since I have no income, he pays the bills, rent, food expenses, vacation expenses, and so on. He also pays my fees (I haven’t taken out any loans). I don’t work because of the amount of time I put into school.
I will be in school for the next decade or so. I feel guilty for the financial pressure this puts on my husband, restricting his freedom to do what he wants with his money, to save it, spend it on random things he wants, and so on. My fees will increase exponentially after two years so that worries me even more. And scholarships and assistantships only go so far. But then I never spend on clothes, shoes, makeup, etc.
We have not discussed how our current arrangement will change once I finally do start working, but my ideal situation will be that what I earn goes toward buying a horrible, peeling, old, hideously expensive gothic mansion and antiques for it COMPLETELY from my money, with the remaining going for art, charity, and traveling, and starting a library, while he continues paying bills.
Re: Household
Plus my account is almost free as I work for that bank.
What does "almost free" mean/include especially when you work for the bank? I am not sure which country you are in and what bank you work for but I am in US and I work for Capital One. Not only a few of our accounts are free of monthly service charge for customers, they are free for employees as well and in fact, employees get some of the benefits that customers have to pay for.
i.e. I get free travel insurance, hotel discount, vision discounts, grocery coupons, free credit card protection, if you submit your receipt each quarter, they give you $10 for $100 (basically they buy your receipts for $10), and they have a few more benefits that I can't recall. Customers have to pay for these while they are free for employees. OH, and also, we have no charge at the ATM, get .50% discount if we need a loan, cashiers checks are free, and a few other ACCOUNT SERVICES benefits.
Re: Household
^ Normally bank accounts cost some money here, u pay quartally. It might be around 40-60 Euros, dont remember that well, but they do cost, its the whole package. For me I pay 10 % of that amount so, so its almost for free + I get other discounts like you.
Re: Household
We have joint checking/savings/investment accounts. With that said, i do all the financial stuff at home, bills, mortgage, etc and I also do end up making all the financial decisions. That's not to say that i don't consult my wife on anything significant.
God bless my wife, she NEVER complains about money and even though she earns a big chunk of our income, she still always asks if she can buy something. I always tell her that she earns too and that she can do whatever with her income, but I suppose I'm blessed with a very conscientious wife.
The good news is that because I take care of all financial issues, I could pretty much go out and buy the 30 foot sailboat that I've been wanting and she wouldn't even know, :).
The bad news is that if I die tomorrow, she won't have a CLUE where our finances stand. I have to MAKE her sit down and go through some details with me once a quarter, just so that she's aware of where everything is.
