Ranbir Kapoor: Ranbir was undoubtedly the shining star of 2009. The actor has had two releases this year Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, both of which have become commercial successes. In Wake Up Sid, Ranbir played a lazy, spoiled college-going kid, while in Ajab Prem… Ranbir tried his hands at comedy. There is no doubt that Ajab Prem… worked because of Ranbir and only Ranbir. In his last release of 2009 Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Ranbir played a salesman Harpreet Singh Bedi, who dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career for all smart people blocked from entering medical, engineering or business schools by brainless entrance exams.

Shahid Kapur: The former boy-next-door Shahid Kapur has become the pin-up boy of Bollywood post Kaminey. Last year (2008) Shahid had just one film Kismat Konnection, which didn’t do well at the box office. The actor bounced back with the release of Kaminey in which he played a double role. His six-pack abs became the talk of the town. Girls too couldn’t stop raving about Shahid and his new persona. His next release in 2009 was Yashraj’s Dil Bole Hadippa opposite Rani Mukherjee. The movie couldn’t manage to make a mark at the box office, but Shahid’s dance moves became a huge hit. Next year looks even more promising for Shahid with Ken Ghosh’s Chance Pe Dance all set for release in January 2010. And that’s not all, Shahid will be sporting eight-pack abs in it.

John Abraham: Bollywood’s handsome hunk John Abraham has had just one release on 2009 - New York. He played the role of a common man who gets entangled in the big bad world of terrorism. This movie saw some serious acting by John.
Abhishek Bachchan: 2009 saw the release of the most aniticipated movie Delhi-6 starring Junior B. Directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra of Rang De Basanti fame, the movie failed to strike the right chords with the audience. But nevertheless, one of its song Masakkali Masakkali became a huge hit. There was a long silence from Abhishek Bachchan post Delhi-6on the big screen, but the actor did manage to grab the limelight on small screen when he appeared on The Oprah Winfrey show along with his beautiful wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Then came Paa, the movie was his home production and as expected there were a lot of jitters too. The movie was one of its kind, where Abhi played Pa to his Pa, Amitabh Bachchan. The movie is slowly riding the ladder at box office. Abhishek has received a lot of appreciation for his portrayal of a young politician Amol Arte.
Saif Ali Khan: Saif Ali Khan was seen in a double role in Imtiaz Ali’s movie Love Aaj Kal, which tracks the meaning of love across ages. Saif’s next release was Kurbaan, in which he played a character with grey shades. The movie, which was the most anticipated movie of the year failed to impress the audience.
Abhay Deol: Bollywood’s new lucky boy stole our hearts as Lucky in Dibakar Banerjee’s Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye last year. This year saw him playing a modern day Devdas in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D. The movie was embraced by the media, critics and public alike, and is considered to be amongst path breaking films in Hindi for the way it presented itself. Abhay Deol became the latest sensation in Bollywood with this movie. The audience didn’t mind the Emotional Atyachaar either.
Ajay Devgn: Ajay Devgn’s home production All The Best turned out to be the dark horse of 2009. This multi-starrer comic flick became a huge success and left the audience in splits. Then came London Dreams in which Ajay Devgn paired up with Salman Khan for the second time. The two had done Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam a few years back. But London Dreams didn’t manage to climb the success ladder even when it had some power-packed performances by the two lead actors.

Neil Nitin Mukesh: 2009 was a year full of some sugar and little spice for Neil. The actor had three releases this year, namely - Aa Dekhen Zara, New York and Jail. While Aa Dekhen Zara flopped, New York was this year’s first hit. Neil was got a lot of appreciation for his portrayal of Omar. Then came Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail, apart from its storyline, the movie was in news for Neil’s nude act. The movie did fairly well and Neil Nitin too received critical acclaim for it.

Amitabh Bachchan: This year began for Big B with Delhi-6, in which he did a cameo. Then came Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin in which Big B played Genius - the Gennie. But sadly, Aladin didn’t manage to impress either the young or the old. Then came Paa, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a 13-year-old boy suffering from progeria. This is undoubtedly Big B’s best ever.

Shah Rukh Khan & Aamir Khan: This list cannot be complete without these two Khans, so what if none of the two had even a single release this year. They did enough to stay in news like walking the ramp, attending high profle premieres and fighting!!!
