but I think Wasim’s inlaws are also partly to blame for the unwise move to let Huma fly (against medical advice) in such a critical condition
I am not exactly sure if Huma Akram was airlifted against medical advise. From AKram’s Dawn interview dated Dec. 11 it seems like doctors hospital staff asked Akram to pay $150,000 to transfer his wife to Singapore.
I am taking Akram’s side not because he is a celebrity but because what was reported by the inquiry commission and later confirmed by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, the governing body of all medical and dental practitioners in Pakistan.
DAWN:
Asked if he was satisfied with the government’s decision to cancel the licences of the doctors in question, Akram said he did not want to comment on it ‘but something has to be done to stop them (doctors) from being indifferent to patients.’
Appearing before the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health earlier, Akram had said no medical protocol was followed in the Doctors and National hospitals where senior doctors paid only brief visits to the patient while the rest was managed by junior doctors.
The committee concluded that Huma’s death was caused by ‘criminal negligence’ of doctors at both the hospitals. It recommended immediate cancellation of the licences of 22 senior doctors to the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC).
The PMDC had announced that it would initiate legal action against the doctors for their alleged negligence in Huma Akram’s death.
'We will not only cancel their licences (on the direction of the NA committee) but also refer the matter to our disciplinary committee for legal action,’ PMDC President Prof Sibtul Hasnain told Dawn. Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan is heading the PMDC disciplinary committee.
