Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

So, I want Hookahs/Shisha to be present at my Mehndi (because I love them!) :cobra: but my siblings aren’t too keen to have them.

Have other people had them at their mehndis and is it acceptable to have? Even if no one uses them, it could look nice as a decorative piece.

Opinions?

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

Are you hoping to get high Stardust09? Surely mehndi cant be that bd :)

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

:cb:
not to get me high, but the guests…lol, nah, I only like the apple flavoured tobacco. Also, it’s not like the guests have to smoke it. Could be just for decoration ?? maybe??

Phew, you had me worried there for a while.

I think its a great idea, except Im not sure how friendly the idea is with elders.

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

^ yea, I can see them say “haw haye, larki itni madaarnnn haye” :disgust:

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

I think it's a great idea! Mehndi's are supposed to be fun and "cultural". And I'm against anyone smoking so I'd opt for tobacco-less stuff. It's basically scented air vapor. My cousin had the real stuff though for her wedding and all the guys loved it.

Why would they say that? When they were young, it was fashionable (and completely acceptable) for upper-class Muslim women to smoke huqqahs.

That said, as much as I love traditional customs, this is one I would definitely one I don’t care for. Smoking is a disgusting, unhealthy habit - regardless of whether you do it from a cigarette, a pipe, or a huqqah. Also, at least in the US, there are many places where anti-smoking laws would prohibit you from doing this anyways.

Yeah, except you’re still inhaling pure smoke and damaging your lungs. It’s not quite as bad as smoking tobacco (it’s not addictive), but you should still realize you’re inhaling poison.

Its a great idea, My uncles wife had them at her mehndi. Looked sooo beautiful really arabian style she had huge cushions on the floor too.

Heres a pic.

Im removing this pic after 24hrs

they aren’t upper-class Muslims. They are very conservative and I just happened to be related to them.

awww thanks MB for posting
I think it’s a brill idea but people in my family arent so open minded about the whole thing. Iam just worried some idiot is going to topple it over whilst doing it and burning the whole tent down.

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

my cousins got married in 2008 (karachi) and they had a hookah 'party' following the mehndhi. All the younger guys/girls loved it.

I think it a great idea, and go for some yummy flavors :).

In case, you are having problems having a real hookah for whatever reason. You can use them as decor, and put candy in the silver tray on the top.

Good for you.

None of that really changes the fact that huqqahs are anything but "madaarnnn" in South Asian culture.

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

its a great idea :) jus use them for decor if u dnt want any1 to smoke them

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

We went to an engagement party the other day where they had shisha and this gorgeous arabian tent setup, everyone loved it :)

well for a girl to smoke is still something of a taboo in our family. it's not something i personally agree with but there you go

oh how nice for an engagement as well! Arabian tent sounds classy :)

I want a morroccan/marigold theme for my mehndi :)

Just need to find out how to get my hands on some shisha's in Pakistan.

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

I would have it as a show piece, not to actually smoke.

Re: Hookah/Shisha on Mehndi

I have seen them used as decoration! but never used... let me see if I can scrounge up some pics...
