Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they *ever* justified?

According to some on here the disturbing answer seems to be ‘yes’ (one obvious example in the locked Tahmeena Afzal thread)..

Do you think this is a minority or majority Pakistani/desi view? If it’s the majority shouldn’t we be worried..

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Never.

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

well if someone did something really bad to a member of my family such as murder/rape etc, i wouldn't think twice about splashing them with a bottle of acid.

Other than that no.

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

I don't think the OP meant it like that.
I'm guessing this thread is more about the sort of acid attacks and honour killings that go on around the world and the reasons usually associated with them.

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

^Yeah..

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

NO.

and I absolutely HATE it when ppl bring religion as an excuse into this!!!!

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

No.

saying and doing are two different things.

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Talk about blowing things out of the proportion. :smack:

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

the person who started the Tahmeena Afzal thread was nothing but provocative, and on top of that, what do you expect people to answer if you ask them what if your kids were like that ? anyway the answer is no and i'd be more worried if they are people out there who promote her work

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

^I wouldn't expect a civilised person to say 'burn her alive' or 'throw acid on her face.'

What Tahmeena does is obviously controversial but it doesn't justify those sorts of actions imo..

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Yay… threads for personal attacks…cool i say :k:

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

^Yet saying I'd attack my own daughter in such a graphic way is somehow acceptable?? Nice logic..

(and it's hardly a personal attack when the poster isn't even being named)

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Qft

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

So anyone got any thoughts on whether the majority think this way or just the minority or lunatic fringe..

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Yes.

To honour all of mankind I would kill Nomi. :)

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Aaa jaa Aa Jaa....Kadd le meri jaan...;)

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

i just read the original thread and wow, you're judging based on what ONE person said, and like someone said, there's a difference between saying and doing it, i'm not defending that person but it's wrong to make such a generalization, people who promote honor killings and all that are not civilized at all to begin with, but i've read the OP of that post almost defending T. Afzal, sick.

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Desi,Paki people do that........whats there to ask ??

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

'From what I have read she is honest and sweet, so I guess I can appreciate that. Plus, she is very pretty. But if I had a daughter, I in no way would support this kind of a lifestyle. And I would make it very clear that she is now allowed to ever step into the house if she carries on doing it (given the daughter is an adult and not a teenager who still needs my support ). Obviously I wouldn't abandon my child but this is unacceptable, even for me, someone who's a lot easy-going about a lot of stuff.'

^I wouldn't exactly call that defending or promoting.. She did say nice stuff about her but it's a bit childish to try and make out a person is bad all-round or has no good qualities whatsoever because of one facet of their lifestyle or personality..

Personally I find ppl responding like that to some girl just getting her kit off far more sick.. And no, not just one person, there have been other examples on GS.. There was another guy a while back who said if a girl in his community married a non-Pakistani she should expect to be beaten or honour killed - and that poster was living in the UK..

Re: Honour killings, acid attacks etc, are they ever justified?

Random online responses don't deserve serious consideration.......or for that matter ''generalizations'' ......
