honeymoon in pakistan

Hi everybody,

has anybody visited skardu? I have heard of 02 good hotels there: shigar fort and shangrila. plz share ur experiences about the area.

Is murree/bhurbhan better than skardu for a honeymoon? plz give ur opinion.

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

I've heard loads about Skardu - looking at the pics, it seems so stunning with the tall mountains and valleys. Shagrila is supposed to be the better of the two hotels and going by travelling articles, there business has been hit pretty badly with the unrest in the swat region, even though Swat and Skardu are miles and miles apart. You have to remember Skardu is really remote and all is quiet from what I understand. I reckon you could even get a great deal with Shangri La considering the limited number of tourists travelling to that region!

I rememeber my dad was able to negotiate with them, because they thought we had lost interest in coming - they practically called us on more than one occasion to ask if we were coming?

The last time I went to Murree/Bhurban was back in 1996, and even then it was really commercialised and extremely busy (Peak summer season I guess), but in terms of beauty there is no comparison - Skardu definitely!

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

**Few days back I had made the same thread (dont know where it is now!) asking about honeymoon..

But now we have decided the things...
Short (3days trip) to Muree, Nathiagali, Bhurban and related areas.... and on the way back to Isb..we'd go to Gilgit (Chalas, Shangrila, Skardu, Jaglot and realted areas) by air (I have tracked, there are daily flights going to Gilgit)...that would be a day 10 days trip... Dont have enough time to visit Naran..and to add adventure to the trip, we would try to come back by road on that non-stop buss, that would be a thrill..

Now the question that which hotel to stay! That depends...
But tell me is the trip by road goes through Swat?

Comparing Gilgit to Bhurban is trully un-justified..Bhurban have nothing other than PC.. you can have even a short trip there... But do visit Gilgit, if you want to enjoy beauty and serenity.

And yeah, in which season you're planing to have your honeymoon?

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

theres no way u guys should go towards Swat ....the conditions there dont permitt you to go there i think the safest places to go r pc bhurban ...nathiagalli, thandiyani, muree sux now, skardu must be good

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

if u get to stay in islamabad u can go hiking on margalla hills .....go to monal resturant at peersohawa go for long drives and dinner at some nice hotels we have :)

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

**Monaal, hiking at Margalla hills, Said pur villages are good places to go... but they hardly take maximum a day!

Can anyone tell me is that by road link to Gilgit go via Swat?
**

I would reccomend you go to Hunza if you are going to Gilgit. Hunza is a 100% serene and beautiful. You can go upto Karimabad and enjoy the Baltit and Alitit fort..

**Road to Gilgit goes thru Abbotabad.......Kagan...and on to Gilgit!

Swat is West of Abbotabad..............not to worry ...:)
**

Shigar Fort is stunning. It was just restored by the AgaKhan Trust for Culture and they have done an awesome job. It will be freezing there now though:)

Shangrilla - Sakardu all the way - its truly a heaven on earth
Shangrila Resort - Heaven on Earth, Skardu Pakistan

I spend 2-3 weeks their, few years back. What a place.. wow.. Weather is starting to get awesome from march. Their is no other place then Shangrila resort in Pakistan at least !

Hey guppies

just read this thread and realised that because i am from here in the uk and my fiancee from pakistan we will have 2 weeks together after marriage as i have to be back after the summer [as only have 6 weeks off like school holidays because am a teacher] therefore need to think about honeymoon and it will have to be in pakistan obviously = due to visa issue. My fiancee was saying he will take me to places like murray, lahore, karachi, sindh etc.. and he said he will take care of our honeymoon. Do you recommend anything guys specifically and if so shall i drop it into conversation as well or say i really want to go to. I havent really seen pakistan much, grew up here and then went back last summer after 9 years, ended up engaged alhamdolilah and visited only lahore and karachi really and obviously faislababd where we are from. Went loads of places when i was younger in pakistan but been soo long. Look forward to your responses any suggestions would be nice.

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

AAAA its an excellent idea, when ever I have my honeymoon it has to be on mountains.
Its like magic/dream

Zeebs I dont know how much you can travel but lots of people from UK don't wana visit so many places at once. I would say travel Islamabad and cover the city an surroundings tourist points, stay at PC Bhorbun, it will take few days for you to visit with comfort these areas and then if you have time, you can travel by Air to Skardu and see the beauty of the life

AAAA Skardu is one the best vacation places in the Pakistan and I would recommend try Skardu if you could if not then Gilgit and Hunza valley. You can travel from Abbotabad to Gilgit via middle road that goes between the swat rout and Kagan road. For this route you will need to hire private jeep, do not try your own car. I have travelled from Swat to Abbotabad through this road and I have found this better than the the other two. This route will take you to the shahrahe Resham.

General rule of thumb for the new 'honemooners' is to travel up to very comfortable limit (traveling with energy and passion not with the buron of visiting and covering the area, reaching there, touching the location taking some pics and then run back home), otherwise you comeback home sick and regret that you should have not gone that for or to such and such area. You can also go via Murree > Nathia Gali > Abbotabad and then from there to your next route by skipping Swat.

thanks everybody,

a lot of stuff is now there to decide. skardu for sure.

i just contacted PIA on email and they advised that they operate a daily flight from islamabad to skardu. Its a 1 hour flight and is really a treat in itself. Great views of the whole region.

?

yes

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

Just in case you miss that flight, maybe because of any reason (bad weather etc) there's a buss service going from Pindi to skard in 18-24 hours... you can search by typing "NATCO" in google..

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

And yeah what are the ares in the region in your hit list?

Is owned by my bhabi's (my first cousin--phoopizaad's wife) brother!
Its one of the most beautiful location I have ever been to...and beats the brains out of Switzerland and Austria or the ALPS.

However--the bad news is that currently its a bit risky to go there plus one is never too sure of the consistency in PIA flights to and from Skardu... unless you'd be interested to take a 12 hour jeep ride!!

SHANGRILA....buss theek hai...nothing gung ho about it! but same situation as that of SHIGAR FORT on security and traveling..at the moment.

I would, under the circumstances--suggest NATHIAGALI or BHURBAN..!! Mulla Ki Daurr Masjid Takk...currently!!

Khush rahein..

Re: honeymoon in pakistan

arjay is right, even the gilgit route that PIA offers is inconsistent. We got stuck in Gilgit for an extra 2-3 days because PIA kept cancelling flights because of poor weather, be prepared for that and talk to the PIA personel as to how consistent flights are these days.

i have to go there in august for 3 days max and i believe that the weather is ok in that season.

Regarding security, in skardu/ gilgit, i did not hear of any problem there. Problem is in swat and adjoining areas and it reached till kaghan valley as militants had destroyed some TDCP Motels in kaghan. Skrdu / gilgit is far away however, going by road from pindi to skardu; land route may not be safe. I donot know the land route but i think it passes close to swat. Plz correct me if i m wrong.
