Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

For those of you who went for a Honeymoon outside of Pakland, or even within, where did you go?

How much did it cost?
Would you recommend it?
What are the do’s and don’ts when planning for one outside of the country and within?
How much extra cash should be taken along?
How long is an ideal honeymoon?
What travel agent did you use if any?

Basically haven’t thought about this aspect of it at all. Was wondering if you people were willing to share experiences and recommend spots.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Really? Noone went on a honeymoon? Please people.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

We went to Rome and Paris
4 days in Rome and 2 in Paris. I didn’t want to include Paris but since hubby waited until the last min. we had to fly out from Paris.
Rome was great, we visited almost every famous site there is in Rome. We didn't book any tour ahead of time but had no problem once we were there (we went in the busy season too.) Rome has a great train system n we had no problem getting ard. and saved a bunch on that. We both love sweets and that what we spent a lot of money on. I cant wait to go back again.

Paris - i hated it! People are rude. Since we had only 2 days, we only visited 2 places, Eiffel tower (boring) and the Louvre museum (loved it.) We also did a cruise which was great and we got to see a lot of things, but the food was horrible and it was $$$ almost $300 for two.

Over all we had fun, but i wouldn't recd. me it for a honeymoon...we were soooo tired at the end of it (and of course the Paris airport didn't help either.)

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

^ I don't care for Paris at all! I think it's over-hyped and like you said expensive.

My French-born colleague says the same thing and recommends going to the French countryside instead of Paris. The people are nicer and it's quite picture-esque.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Hello. Costs!!!

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Not sure, he took care of that part once i told him which hotels and places i wanted to go. I wuld imagain it to be ard $3500-4500.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Depends on where you're departing from, what season you're travelling in and what class/level of accomodation you stay in and the money spent on dining and entertainment you partake in.

In general, Western Europe vacation destinations are more expensive, especially during peak season.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

If you are going from Pakistan, I would suggest places like Maldives, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand. I myself havent been, but my cousin went with her husband and loved every minute of it. They went to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore and stayed mostly close to the beaches. She said there were a lot of activities to do at the beaches. She wears full hijab and said that didnt limit her activities at all. Also, in Malaysia there is a lot of halal options to eat if you are conscious about stuff like that.

My dad went to Maldives for business, and he is not into beaches or anything of that sort, but he absolutely loved it. He said it is one of the most beautiful places he has ever been (and my dad travels ALOT). Also, Maldives is a Muslim country, so again, halal options are not an issue.

As for the cost, I cant give you an actual figure. But I know my cousin and her husband spent about $7000-$8000 in total, but that included flights from Canada (which would have been atleast $3000 out of that total.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Thank you

For how long?

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

We took three and a half weeks and road tripped across Europe. Flew to Paris, rented a car, and then drove across to Hungary and Romania to see hubby's family. Our route was Paris > Strasbourg (incredible, massive cathedral) > Heidelburg (Dad had asked us to check it out as he had done many years ago on his cross-Europe backpacking trip) > Nuremburg > Plzen (in Czech. Stayed in a 400 year old monastery converted to a hotel! it was amazing.) > Prague > Budapest > Romania (Monostor, specifically. A very quaint little mountain village where hubby's grandparent's are from) > Pecs (went specifically to check out a mosque built by the Turks in the 1100's that was converted to a church and then became a mosque and then back to a church- very cool interior with the Qiblah still marked, Turkish design with the dome and blue and white tiles, and kalma's still inscribed on the walls even though it now functions as a church) > Graz (Austria. Stayed in the cutest hotel ever (Harry's Hotel Home, and had the BEST creme brulée here.) > Venice > Milan > Cinque Terre > Geneva (stopped here for coffee and tiramisu on our way to Paris for the night) > Paris > back home.

Paris was magnificent. I know it seems cliché because everyone always talks about it and you see it in movies etc, but it truly is amazing. Everyone needs to go to Paris at least once in their lives, imo. We loved it and we loved Versailles. Even just walking around the neighborhoods at night was so lovely. I can't wait to go back!

It was pretty freakin' fantastic as far as honeymoons go. We saw so much and did so much- it was invigorating. Obviously not for those who want to lounge on a beach all day (although we did that in the Cinque Terre so I suppose you could plan your route so you do hit some beaches (south of France and south of Italy along the Amalfi coast come to mind). I would highly, highly, highly recommend it.

Do's and Don'ts- Do make sure you have all your travel documents and visa's sorted (obviously). Do be adventurous! It really is an amazing time with just you and the hubby and the future all stretched out shiny and bright masha'Allah. Cash-wise, we honestly didn't carry much. Everywhere we went, we either withdrew what was needed, or we used our credit cards. Everyone will accept a Visa although MC can be a bit hard to find.

I could have been on honeymoon for a few months, to be honest, but for the kind of trip we did 3.5 weeks was perfect. We weren't rushed and we were able to time it so that we could spend more days in a particular place if we felt like it, and we did when we got to Graz because we loved it so much. If you are planning a trip like this, don't be too itinerary-driven. Play it by ear. We had our laptop with us and we'd drive around when we got to a new city, we'd usually find someone's internet connection to hop on to, and book a hotel online there and then (booking.com, hotels.com and venere.com were our mainstays), or we'd find a coffee shop with free wi-fi and do so. We were never stuck for a place to stay and we could pick our neighborhood rather than booking sight unseen.

We bought our tickets from Expedia and arranged a rental car from them too as well as first couple of night's hotel in Paris.

Cost was in the neighborhood of 10 grand but it was well worth every penny.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

woah. brilliantly detailed thank you.

i was really interested in perhaps booking a night train tour of major cities in europe for a week or two

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Noooooo dont go to Europe its over-rated (and the weather sucks).....go somewhere like Malaysia or Thailand, im thinking Australia but they are quite a racist bunch...but i have never ventured to that part of the world so it would be nice....

but if you are thinking europe then make Ireland an option too (weather sucks) but apart from that you can do and see ALOT because there is a mix of country and city and you can go on a roadtrip to Northern Ireland too!!

sorry about my vagueness but if you consider Ireland i can give you some prices and tips on where to stay etc :D

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Australians aren't all racist but what are you expecting to do in Australia? You could go to Perth I guess they have beautiful beaches and dolphins but I would recommend New Zealand more since they have a LOT more activities.

Also please don't swim by yourself unless you have a death wish in Australia. The waves would take you to an early grave.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Go ahead give me prices :):)

Economy is a big factor. :) Tell tell

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews

Re: Honeymoon Destinations and Personal Reviews
