home theatre system

can anyone help me on this,i want to buy a home theatre system and found a few real cool ones, specially the latest from sony but then i wonder is it worth the 600 dollars or is there any other brand which is equally good and reasonably priced…any tips please!

BOSE Lifestyle® 50 System :k::k::k::k::k::k:

I dont think any home theater system can beat that .. I luv itttttt

Aatif, is Bose under 600 bucks?

I would normally advise to get separate items.... like get a Sony Receiver and 5-DVD changer, get a sub-woofer and speakers from Bose or other good brands.... however, most home theatre systems will give you a good deal if you buy the whole thing in a package.

If Bose is outside your budget, then Sony has some good options which will fit your budget. Also Panasonic.

Please remember that the trick to great sound is not just how much you invest in buying the system, but also how you place your speakers. Please do some more search on the internet to get some pointers on how to place your speakers to get the most out of your system. Really expensive system can produce fairly ordinary sound if they are not placed properly.

5 dvd changer? its useless unless you're too lazy to change the dvd urself. and for those who recommend a 300 dvd changer..you must be EXTREMELY LAZY.

Well 5-DVD changer is very helpful because most Indian movie VCD's we get from Pakistan are in 3 VCD's.

Ofcourse, one should only go for a 5-DVD changer if one can afford it. Else single DVD players are also good.

thanks Faisal ,i guessi need to check out the internet more on it before buying it!

tutu Bose blows.. stay away from it at ALL costs.

do u need to get EVERYTHING for $600??

To setup from scratch u'd need

  1. Receiver
  2. DVD player
  3. 5.1 Speaker System
  4. Cabling

for $600 u'd end up buying something u may not be satisfied with in the longer run.. but once u've confirmed i can recommend some stuff.

hey u all r confusing me.......now that i was doing some research on Bose ,here we have u saying it blows!!.........i want to use my dvd as it is so this means i need a reciever, the speakers etc so now what do i do,i dont want to get something and then fin d it not the worth so please do pour in all the info anyone can!

PA: do you know what BOSE is?? dont talk crap here buddy! Its definitely expensive, but really worth it :k:

making fun of bose?

without bose you wouldnt have surround sound...yes they are pricey, but thats caus their the only company that researches so extensively when making products.

Aatif bro, I know my BOSE.. do you?? I sympathize with BOSE owners but here’s an old BOSE FAQ. You may find the same on several other sites.. Google it.

hskhan, they are pricey cuz they spend gobs on marketing. If one gets like a 60%+ discount on BOSE then maybe it’s worth considering .. but let’s not for a moment think it’s anywhere near perfect surround sound or the pinnacle of home theater ownership.. far from it.

Here’s a piece of free advice, don’t let u’re friends read this and sell them u’re BOSE.. now u have enough cash to buy a real speaker system

tutu, do a lot of research .. even if u don’t buy, u’d learn something on your way.

Here are a few systems to research

  • Acoustic Research HC2
  • JBL SCS 135 or 125
  • JBL NSP1
  • Home Theater Direct Level 1 or Level 2 (the subs are a little boomy.. check out SONY SA-WM20 or SA-WM40 as alternatives.

Also check out other Acoustic Research HC models.

Further research (especially if u’re in Canada and can stretch that budget) Energy and Paradigms.

Speaker selection is highly subjective.. what suits one may not be for another (except BOSE.. they suck across the board :D) so make sure you audition the speakers.. listen.. listen.. listen..

Good Luck

BOSE faq (written in 1995!) .. I read that .. complete BS!!! Have you interned at BOSE? NO! Do you know any bit of their technology? NO! So research before saying any crap about anything :hoonh:

I dont believe any system could beat BOSE at the moment.

Learn about BOSE. Google it yourself

This is not about BOSE so let's let it die.. u own it, or maybe worked for them so your brand loyalty hinders an objective assessment.

BOSE doesn't even figure among the top 20 brands audiophiles would prefer to audition... there is a reason it get no mention in any high-end respectable audio magazine.. No expert in his right mind would recommend BOSE for the price it sells.

They target the ignorant masses and are very successful in making them believe it's all that.

Next time listen to BOSE next to other speakers costing the same.. if u want i can recommend some excellent speakers for a side by side comparison.. u'd be pleasantly surprised.

okie dokie

keep your comparisons to yourself

n good luck with ur research!

i got Yamaha RX-V620 with JBL NSP-1 speaker system and JBL PB-10 PowerBass Subwoofer.. i am not here to bad mouth any company or any brand but this configuration will keep you happy for years to come.. :) .. just on the side note if you have a good tv BELIEVE me you wouldnt want to go to theaters anymore.. :) .. best thing you will get it under 1000 bucks with wires and everything else.. :) reciever sounds better than great at low volumes and you pitch it high and its still as clear as anything.. speakers are more than capable to take the max receiver power and lets not even talk about subwoofer.. at half the volume it will shake your whole house.. :)

i would suggest that dont get into pre built home theater systems or home theater in a box because they usually lack performace.. if you expect anything more than your normal TV sound coming from all corners, you wanna make your own system.. :) .. in the end.. good luck in ur search.. it took me 3 months to build mine.. :)

tutu my dear get a part time job at Best Buy...you can buy a $1000 Bose system for almost half the price..buy all the electronics that you want and then quit haha

thank you sheraz dear...CT kay best buy main app nokree dilwa deen meray tu aisey contacts naheen!!!!anyway please wish me luck cuz i really want one and i am trying hard to manage it in my budget!!!!aur yeh Bose tu looks so cool that one automatically wants to buy something of it if not the whole so i am really putting in a lotof effort, lets hope everything works out!!

main job dila deta but i went to pakistan last year and i never went back to best buy after that haha...anyways if u work for best buy..you only have to pay 5% over the whole sale so you can get really good deals..i'd still suggest u get a job at best buy..they arent lookin for rocket scientist haha

thanks fo rthe suggestion..............i guess i would manage some other way!!!

I bought a Sony MHC-DP1000D in Dubai for about 1500 dirhams (approx. $410). Its brilliant. We got it around one and a half years back and no probs yet. It's got 3 cd changer, DVD/VCD/CD player with radio and double cassette deck. I would definitely recommend it!
