Do you guys do that at home, in your regular oven? Share the recipe please.
Re: Home made naan
Yes, we have. There is a recipe by FF, It always work great.
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp instant yeast ( I just use the whole packet which is equivalent to 2 tbsps of yeast)
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1tbsp sugar
In warm milk mix yeast and sugar. Let it sit couple minutes. Mix oil and salt in all purpose flour. Then use the milk mixture to kneed the dough. Let the dough sit for at least 1 hour in dark and warm place. I normally cover my dough with a warm damp cloth.
For baking, turn the broiler on high. Heat a cookie sheet. Make naans and broil them on the cookie sheet under broiler 1-2 minutes each side. When the come out, spread some butter on the top.
Re: Home made naan
Do we need to have yeast?

Re: Home made naan
That’s how I make them :
1kg flour
1 egg
1 tablespoonfull yoghurt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon dried yeast
1 cup warm milk
2 tablespoon olive oil
Add the sugar, salt and yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Add the oil first in the flour, then the egg, mix it well. Then the warm milk mixture*. Knead well, then add the yoghurt.
Let the dough rise (± 2 hours).
I’ve made it in the oven at 250°[broiler] (less than 3 minutes) and at 200°[convection oven] too (almost 5-6 min)*
Re: Home made naan
Yes, we do need yeast. Without yeast the dough will not rise and you will get roti instead.
Re: Home made naan
I can make good dough (from the ideas here on GS - like the one by Lusi) but miserably fail when I oven them. They always become too dry like a pappar!
Re: Home made naan
Either you leave them in oven too long or your naan are too thin.
Unfortunately, I can’t post a pic from my cell pH. ![]()
Re: Home made naan
I see! When I fail to make naan, then I cook parathas of that dough which really turns out very soft and tasty! I will retry.
Re: Home made naan
Made a few times. Just enough for four people. Took the recipe from some afghani site and modified it a bit.
They turned out pretty well for a first try. If I did it again, only thing I would change is that I would crank the heat up a little bit more since apparently ovens tend to be a little off.
Re: Home made naan
Mostar, check the yeast you are using .. sometimes if you arent able to activate it fully , it wont give the naan the fluffy feel ..
I use the yeast that we get in asda /tesco :
Online Food Shopping - ASDA Groceries
In quarter cup luke warm water, add in half tsp sugar and one tsp yeast , give just one stir and let it sit for 15 minutes .. if you notice it getting foamy that means its active. if its not foamy it means either the yeast package has expired and you need to buy a new one or the water wasnt luke warm enough to let the yeast activate ..
Bus , if you can get that right, you will get good naan’s ![]()
Re: Home made naan
Mostar, one more thing to add,
I usually use a really really heated up grill and oven option for naan. but before putting it into the oven, I prepare the dough , and put it on a very slightly oiled hot tawa for a couple of seconds , as soon as bubbles start forming on the top, you shift that naan into the oven and let it cook up fully.
makes really nice and soft yet crispy naan
Re: Home made naan
That’s a good idea! Thanks.
