Re: Home Decoration..
I am no scholar so dont beat me but this is what I heard.
Pictures that are hidden (like my ID card in my wallet) and one that are exposed (like the one hanging on the wall) are two different things. The hadees that someone mentioned is applicable in the second part.
The pictures that I have control on are different than the one I dont have control on. I cant say no to Lisc. office or passport office. I have to carry currency notes with me that has pic of people on it.
Actually, it is not entirely true that your namaz is not valid if the room has pictures. The hadees is that Angels of Blessing do not enter your home if it has a dog, picture of living bieng or a person who needs ghusl in it. Because it is beleived that Angels of blessings should be the one who would recieve your namaz and endorse it and add it in your book of good deed, and if they are not there to begin with (because of a picture), your namaz is as good as not being done.
Re: Home Decoration..
digital frame is actually a very good idea, never thought of it from that angle.
Re: Home Decoration..
I know of the very same things as TLK ... Infact once this question was posed to a scholar ( cant locate the source now ) but will share what i remember , he had said , that there is a difference between pictures for necessity and pictures for pleasure ...
License, currency notes, passport are not for pleasure , but a necessity ... hence we cant really fight a system. however we can avoid painting, taking pictures , handing pictures etc ...
Though we tend to forget to do the right things from time to time ( feeling guilty) ... I decided not to hang any pics in my home .

Well said and well defined Thanks TLK bhaii
Re: Home Decoration..
This whole issue of pictures makes me believe that Islam was meant for the people of the time living 1400 years ago.
It is all proved with the help of ahadees which contradict each other , are do not stand the test of common sense and logic.
Quran is meant for our guidance forever and you cannot prove from Quran anything against pictures.
Just do not take the word of mullah for anything to be against religion. Read , analyse and make your own decision.
Disclaimer: I am not saying or implying that throw all the ahadees out the window, but many many ahadees which are supposed to be authentic do not stand the test of logic .
For example there is a hadees that once Hazrat Jibraeeel told Rasool Allah that I came to your home last night but I saw a curtain on your door which had pictures on it so I went back.
Now we as Muslim believe that angels do not have free will they do what is ordered them to do but in this case Hazrat Jibrael is manefesting free will . How is that possible ?
Here is the hadees:
Abu Daawood, at-Tirmidhee and an-Nasaa’ee have reported, with a good (jayyid) chain of narrators, on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:“ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Jibreel (Gabriel) came to me and said: I came to you last night and was prevented from entering simply by the fact that there were images/statues****[29]](http://www.muslimconverts.com/e-books/image/image_hadit.htm#_note29)** (tamaatheel) at the door, and there was in the house a curtain with images/pictures (tamaatheel)****[30]](http://www.muslimconverts.com/e-books/image/image_hadit.htm#_note30) on it; and there was a dog in the house. So, order that the head of the statue (timthaal) which is in the house be cut off so that it may become like the form of a tree; order that the curtain be cut up and made into two cushions spread out on which people walk; and order that the dog be put out. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then did so”**.
