Just watched this video on FB (someone posted it there). I’m a bit disturbed now after watching it. Yeah I get it, the title is catchy but why do they have to come up with Hollywood inspired titles for selling Islam?
And this is actually a good scholar and I have listened to his lectures in past but I don’t understand the sudden change in his style?
Am I the only one who thinks this is pure weirdness and actually a bit insulting to Islamic teachings? What are we going to see next, Taraweeh Impossible or Meet the Imams?
They are trying to connect with the youth.....whats wrong if they have a catchy title?? as far as i know...its not wrong/illegal to have such titles for speeches/videos......
i think these guys are better than the bunkered up 'ulema' who think that unless someone comes to them they are not going to teach/educate others about islam.....

Connecting with the youth using Hollywood rip off titles? Most of these videos are for 20 years old and over. Did I say it's illegal?
And know your completely wrong in assuming that Ulema don't use internet or media to preach but obviously you haven't heard Sh. Al Shareef's previous lectures and videos so you have no idea what I'm talking about.
I don’t see anything wrong with this... all he’s doing is making the message more catchy by using superficial styles and gestures -- a layer of panache that is bound to get the attention of more people. The message itself isn’t altered or concocted in the process and he’s still utilizing authentic references.
It’s just keeping up with the times when attention spans are short, there’s information overload, and various other idiotic acts are vying for our eyeballs. In such situations, what’s wrong with creating an initial attraction to the message... as long as the message itself remains unadulterated.
I can relate to this because in my own line of work as a professor, I’ve had to change my method and style of delivery and discussion – otherwise, I’d be perceived as outmoded and outdated.
If we really believe that Islam is more than a religion... a way of life... then we better keep up with the times that we live in and not clasp on to what we consider conventional or traditional.

Agree with Lucid. I look at it this way - any publicity is good publicity. People wouldn’t be researching Islam if there wasn’t so much controversy surrounding the religion and we wouldn’t have had a rise in the number of converts MashaAllah. I mean how many tv channels do you see making documentaries on Buddhism? So in the same way, we probably would never have watched this guy if you hadn’t posted the video, Hareem. And the fact that we’re having this discussion right now is proof that his “tactic” worked. It attracted attention and made a lot more people listen to him. I sorta forgot all about the title once I started listening to him. I think this compensates for the title. He was very casual in speech which I liked. I can’t really relate to an aalim speaking impossible urdu! I love Baba Ali and Badman (youtubers) for this very reason. They both use humour to spread the message of Islam and it works, they have hundred of thousands of views in comparison to a stern-looking aalim.
what you will gain with rise in number of converts? This is the kind of mentality in islam which I hate. all you think of is muslim, islam…not about being a human first.
Thanks for the replies everyone. It's good to know that people do like this style and do pay attention to it but I just can't imagine giving an ear to such method, may be because I'm just not used to.
I just can't mix the two things together in any form.
I think the best way of preaching, speaking and teaching is the way of Prophet(SAW). I just don't see this modern method (of using famous movies and songs and acting bad/cool) anyway near that.
Hundred and thousands of views mean nothing but I see your point. I wasn’t comparing Sh. Al Shareef or his method to stern-looking alims. There are many scholars who are very humble and all and are successful in conveying their message to people without acting cool and without losing their dignity.
Since Baba Ali is not a scholar I have nothing against him. I find him very annoying btw.
If a person is able attract others towards islam......especially the young ones.....and he 'loses his dignity' i think its still worth a shot.........what good is the dignity if the knowledge isn't spreading to the maximum potential??

Who told you to convert mere bhai? Did anyone put a gun to your head and forced you to listen to anyone preaching Islam, to read anything related to Islam? No. All the converts converted because they wanted to. Kar lo jo karna hai. The Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, they aren't just sitting quiet, they too are trying to bring people to their religion. So if you want to hate Islam because muslims try to spread the message of God then please do hate on all other religions too because they are doing the same.
Hareem, you're right in your view which is different to that of the immature youth, especially the ones in the west. The method that you speak of is ofcourse a noble one but it would probably be too boring for them even though this was Prophet saw's way of teaching (I'm keeping my younger brother in mind while writing this). So the learned ones try to spark their interest with these updated methods of teaching.

How can you say that? What sort of alims you're talking about, please provide some examples because you're definitely speaking on a different frequency.
