My best friend just got back from a 2-week tour of Europe. I was talking to her on the phone yesterday and she was telling me all about her trip. Probably the most interesting things I learned was that in Holland, everyone rides bicycles!!!
I think it’s such a wonderful idea and I now wish to live in Holland when I grow up, kasme.
I mean just think about it…There wouldn’t be any car accidents. If anything there would be bicycle accident in which people would lightly bump eachother and just pedal off with a silly little giggle . The atmosphere would be so much more cleaner. People would be able to get some fresh air. Bicycles don’t take up as much room as cars do, eliminating the need for big parking lots, roads, and garages. Bicycles are also much less expensive, so virtually anyone would be able to get around just like the others. People would be getting exercise on a daily basis. The general mood of society would be so much more pleasing and care-free.
I really love riding my bike, be it to get around or just for fun. When I heard about how everyone rides around on bikes in Holland, I immediately made a secret decision to live there someday. (Also because Gizzy lives there ).
In such an instance (and it doesn’t happen often that one needs to go great distances - especially in a small country like Holland) public transportation could be used to go farther distances. For everyday transportation, bicycles are the most convenient.
I think Pakistan should also practice this system of transportation. People living in places where everything is so close by don’t need cars. It just causes more problems of space, gas, environment/health, etc. Once again, public transportation could be used if one needs to get to a different town or whatever.
People only cycle within a city....outside city they still use vehicles....Because of congestion a cycle is probably as quick as a car in city centres.
I was going to go to Amsterdam last year but instead I opted for Barcelona instead.:)
