Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]
Yes it’s impossible to understand our hockey team. How can a team that beat Holland 3-2 and drew with Spain lose against Argentina 0-1 and England 0-1? Australia are a much better outfit so it was no surprise that we lost 0-3 against them.
The bottomline is: We are just not good enough at this level
Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]
England manager Pete Nicholson felt his side’s superior fitness was the crucial factor.
“We want to be on the front foot all the time and so we use a lot of substitutions and people play in short spells,” he said. “We want to play in the last five minutes like we did in the first. Pakistan don’t use substitutions as much and I think that told in the end.”
Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]
Some of the reasons to me for their continueous failures for years now are,Too many average players in the current side: i.e Ghazanfar,Dilawar,Zeeshan,Adnan, They all r nothing more than Club players.Mentel weakness : For Last couple of years now they lose one match in every Tournament to a much weaker side and then they have no chance to come back.Lack of Initiative:In macthes they do take lead they always sit back and defend it rather than consolidate further.

Penalty Corners:
Can a person, deadly accurate with PC, lead his team to victory stand??
A team playing for PC is unlikely to win ??
Taeke Taekema (Ned) scored 11 goals and his team finished at 7th position. In the past Sohail Abas (Pak) has finished as top scorer in so many cmpetetions and Pak failed to win.
Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]
But Taeke Taekema did help Holland win the Champions Trophy recently
It’s interesting to note that Holland, Germany and Australia have won the event 8 times each. Pakistan who inaugurated the tournament in 1978 and won the initial two events have won it only once since 1980. That was way back in 1994, the same year when we won our 4th and last World Cup.
So did Bovelander during the 1990 WC 3-1 triumph over Pakistan.
Paul Litjens also helped Holland win many hockey tournaments
But the main problem is that our forward line not as talented as it used to be. We have struggled to find a really good centre-forward since the days of Hassan Sardar and Shahbaz Ahmad.
