Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

At least there is someone to care about hockey! The sport which gave Pakistan the most glorious moments in its history is being neglected in such way. Hardly few people know about that there is a hockey world cup going to start within next few days.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

I may be also going to watch some of Pakistan's match.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

I am really looking forward to see some good ol` asian style hockey by Pakistan combined with contemporary needs. Shahnaz Shaikh always believed in this and now he is at the helm again, I hope he moves ahead after the debacle of Champions trophy.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

By the way pakistan is in a really tough group. Australia and Spain are Pakistan nemesis. NZL and Arg are by no means pushovers.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

yup but looking at the ranking Pakistan is 5th top team and india is 6th.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

hockey the ghareeb maila khail of pakistan and besides pakistan is in poor form..so few people are excited about this.beating nzl and argentina will be tough enough for pakistan and spain and australia are too good.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

Desiduecool! You are also ghareeb maila! Arn't you being desi?

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

Yesterday's results contained upset. Korea beat Netherlands (one of the favourites) and NZL also beat Argentina.

Germany 3 : 2 India

Argentina 0 : 3 New Zealand

Korea 3 : 2 Netherlands

Pakistan will play their first game against Japan in a little while.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

One of the sports Pakistan was a great champion of once... out of the first 8 worldcups, Pakistan had won 4 and reached final 6 times... since 1994 when Pakistan last won the world cup, the performance along with popularity of the game has been going really down, cricket replacing it on both accounts... I'll never forget the '94 final which we won in sydney against netherlands on penalty shootout.. the excitement was extreme.. shahbaz was probably one of the greatest players of all times to take the field...

sadly, right now we cant expect same results... but we can always hope for miracles, which may revive the game once again in Pakistan!!

I dont think there'll be any streams of this WC anywhere, but if there is(audio or video), plz let me know.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

Pakistan won the opener against Japan 4 - 0 thanks to brace from Sohail Abbas and one from Rehan Butt and Shakeel Abbasi. Good beginning but stern tests lie ahead.

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

:jhanda:Pakistan win its first match against Japan 4:0 :jhanda:

found no streams though.. the one mentioned above didn’t work for me :bummer:

lets see how we perform against Newzealand tommorow… they look in good form after beating Argentina 3:0

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

Pakistan 4 - 4 NewZealand.

It was the best match of the tournament thus far with lots of attacking flair on display. Pakistan were favourites but Newzealand lost lead thrice. Pakistan must hope to beat Aussies and spain to have any hope for semifinals.

Great match though :k:

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

Pakistan should have beaten NZ,because real tough matches are still ahead,I mean Pakistan has not beaten both Australia and Spain for a long, long time now,

Re: Hockey Worldcup 2006 - [Mönchengladbach, Germany]

The way Newzealand have started this campaign, they were no pushovers.

One great positive is that Argentina took two points off Spain to keep Pakistan top of the group. Pakistan must get at least seven points in our remaining three games. We will be sure of a semifinal spot then insha'allah!!!

Spain 1 - 1 Argentina
Korea 1 - 0 England
