In theory Pakistan could still be eliminated and not qualify for the Olympics. Do the maths - the points still up for grabs, and you will see. If Pakistan loses all remaining matches it will be out.

On day five, Pakistan has won a very high standard match over India to remain the only team with three wins from three matches.
Malaysia was the only other winner over Canada in today’s games of Pool B, with New Zealand and Belgium playing out a 2-2 draw.
Pool B next play their matches on Monday, with critical games ahead that will finalise the teams’ Athens aspirations to the positive or negative.
Of particular note is the game between India and New Zealand, with the winner a likely automatic qualifier with Pakistan.
Please go to the FIH Match Schedule for more information and material.
NZL 2 BEL 2
A very close match between two closely ranked teams.
In a tight first 50 minutes when both teams shared sustained periods in attack, New Zealand lead 2-1 thanks to goals to Hayden Shaw and Philip Burrows.
Then began a 20 minute period of Belgian dominance, holding the ball in their attacking half for long stretches although unable to convert.
Just as it looked as though time had beaten the Belgians, Patrice Houssein scored his second goal for the game with 90 seconds remaining to draw the match.
New Zealand will be frustrated with their form in the latter part of this game and last, and Belgium seemed jubilant with their second draw of the tournament.
New Zealand plays India and Pakistan in their next two matches.
Belgium has Canada and Malaysia as their final two opponents.
NZL Goals: Shaw (PC 15m), Burrows (FG 25m)
BEL Goals: Houssein 2 (FG 18m 69m)
CAN 2 MAS 3
A game of missed opportunities for Canada, and Malaysia will feel somewhat fortunate to walk away with three points.
After a frenetic start to the match when Canada scored after three minutes and could have scored their second through two opportunities soon after, the match settled before Malaysia clawed their way back to lead 2-1 at half time.
An even 15 minutes followed the break before Canada started to dominate possession and applied sustained pressure on the Malaysian defence.
Wayne Fernandes scored his second corner goal of the match with 15 minutes to go in the match to even the scores and Malaysia looked as though they would be overrun.
To their credit, they withstood the pressure and earned their first penalty corner for the half with 2 minutes remaining. The resultant stroke gave them a tense 3-2 win.
Canada will rue hitting the crossbar twice during the match.
Malaysia plays Pakistan and Belgium in their two remaining matches. Canada meets Belgium and India.
CAN Goals: Fernandes 2 (PC 4m 55m)
MAS Goals: Mhd Nor (PC 21m), Chua (FG 27m), Rahim (PS 68m)
PAK 5 IND 3
Its games like these that make you think that hockey is one of the best spectator sports in the world.
An incredibly fast paced game with some spectacular skills in both defence and attack from both teams.
Whilst Pakistan’s Sohail Abbas was the star of the show with four corner goals from four attempts, it was the skill of the players coupled with the pre-match expectations, the large and vocal crowd and the passion of the players that made the game a magnificent spectacle.
Pakistan lead bolted to a 4-1 after 40 minutes before India struck back twice in 90 seconds to bring the score back to 4-3 and set the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Abbas struck his fourth goal with seven minutes to go to put the game out reach for India although the pace of game was maintained until the final siren.
On nine points and virtually assured of an Athens berth, Pakistan next plays Malaysia and then New Zealand.
An improved India faces New Zealand and Canada. A win in both these games will likely see them automatically qualify.
PAK Goals: Abbas 4 (PC 2m 28m 41m 62m), Butt (FG 34m)
IND Goals: Gagan 2 (FG 42m 44m), Thakur (FG 33m)

Pakistan plays a lacklusture goal-less draw against Malaysia…
Final score 0-0
Now pakistan is a confirmed qualifier for the Olympics…![]()
Pakistan missed quite a few chances and trump card Sohail Abbas was off color as well. Playing against better teams would be tough in this form. Lets hope it was just an off day for pakistani team. Dominating throughout the match, somehow back of the net eluded us…
In other matches India won against New Zealand 2-0 and enhanced its own chances.
How many teams will qualify for Olympics from this tourney?

No, 7, because Greece has not been given an automatic place and is rather miffed about it.
Secondly Pak is not mathematically qualified yet. The 1st two in each pool qualify directly and then 3 from the remaining 8 after playoffs. Depending on tomorrow's result against NZL, PAK could finish 3rd (assuming IND beats CAN) and so then be forced to playoff for the remaining 3 places. Obviously we should aim to beat NZL so as not to have to worry . Mind you IND-CAN is the first game tomorrow so in case IND does not win we are through. Hope the above is clear. Go Pakistan GO!
Wow, this Sohail Abbas is just like Gretzky on grass is’nt he,

Paksitan is on 10 points while India and NZ are on 7 points each. If Paksitan were to lose their last match and India and NZ were to win theirs than there will be a three way tie on points. However, Paksitan's goal difference is superior to both. Pak has a net goal difference of 6 while India has 2 and NZ 1. So Pakistan will have to lose to NZ by a net margin of 3 goals for it not to qualify. Possible but hopefully highly unlikely.
^^ in 36th minute, india is 5-0 up against canada so their Goal difference has improved alright!
Current score India 5 Canada 4.
** Canada 4 India 6 **
4 Canada
Sean Campbell (FG) 36:37
Rob Short (PS) 54:46
Paul Wettlaufer (PC) 59:29
Sean Campbell (FG) 68:34
6 India
Deepak Thakur (FG) 05:05
Arjun Halappa (FG) 07:21
Dilip Tirkey (PC) 18:22
Deepak Thakur (FG) 34:51
Deepak Thakur (FG) 35:41
Ignace Tirkey (FG) 69:12
India now has 10 points and a goal difference of 4.
Final Score Ind 6 - Can -4
so this means that Pakistan are definately through to Olympics as india's goal difference is 4 and Pakistan's goal difference is 6.

If Pakistan loses to NZ by a net margin of 3 goals or more than they will have to play for the 3rd qualifying place. Win, draw or a loss by net 2 goals and they are through.
