Iran has been hurt more by the sanctions, its foolish pursuit to fight with Israel than its domestic issues. Of course it needs to address the grievances of its people, and its government is MUCH better positioned to do so than Pakistan.
As for problems in the country, I spend a month each time I was there, without any fear of persecution (I’m not shia), or any threats of terrorism. I don’t speak a word of farsi and was carrying a Swiss passport. SO the next time you’re getting a full body search in Pakistan or running away from the next suicide bombing, just remember what I wrote.
